Someone on here wanted the information about the Rocky Springs Church in Letterkenny twp. I am sorry i misplaced you name, etc. I did something i have been putting off and dreading for over 20 years, opened the files of when my husband and i worked together on this. And guess what, Right! i have more than you ever wanted to know about the Rocky Springs Church. Hope this finds the one that emailed me. June
You don't mean Solomon's Evangelical Lutheran Church at Grindstone Hill, do you? My husband's ancestors are buried there.
Again, another one of my usually haunts in Franklin County genealogy research. This is another old cemetery. Some of the stones are in very good shape and other are not. There are also some unmarked graves due to stone falling over. The Franklin County Historical Society in Chambersburg has a complied list of the cemetery that one of it's members did. Don't limit yourself with the spelling. My great great grandparents are buried in this cemetery and their stones are beside each other, but the spelling on the last name is completely different. This is a beautiful old church, founded in 1786. Good Luck! Amy
If anyone on this list is connected to Shady Grove, Antrim Township, then I would like to know about the name LAURENCE, in the year 1781. Can it be found anywhere in connection to the Sarah GORDON family, or earlier? Thank you. Howard

Sharon, I checked Jim Houpt's Cemetery Index CD and did not find LATSCHACH. There are LATSHAWs, but no Frederick or Johannes, and not in Salem Church Cemetery. There is a Salem Evangelical Luth. in Guilford Twp. The one in Pleasant Hall is Salem Lutheran Church and it is still there. Pleasant Hall is in Letterkenny Twp. There are some records at Kittochtinny, although I don't know how complete they are. I think whatever they have would be in Jim Houpt's Index. Bill

I found an interesting FOSTER in the Upper West Conococheague Pres. Church. Martha b 1 Sept 1776, James b 24 May 1778, and Hugh b 8 Aug 1784 All show as children of DANIEL FOSTER. I am "guessing" that this DANIEL is a brother to my HUGH FOSTER b 1755. Can anyone find any further information on DANIEL. I did not find a marriage record, I wonder if he is listed as a Rev. War soldier. What tax list does he appear? All help deeply appreciated. Karen Patterson

Amy et al, In James Haupt's "Franklin County Cemetery Locator", p. 141, Re. Keefer's Cemetery, ""At the gate there is a wooden sign which says: " Keefer's Cemetery of Horse Valley 1794"" Perhaps this the one. Bill
I've been researching in that area for awhile and have never heard of a "Horse Valley Cemetery". There are numerous old cemeteries in Horse Valley and off of Horse Valley Road. Both cemeteries that come to mind are extremely old. The one is Keefer Cemetery it is across from the Gospel Mission and the other I'm not sure what the name is but if you keep going on the Horse Valley Road it will eventually turn into a dirt road and I believe it goes into the game lands. There will be an old cemetery among a grove of trees soon after you get on the dirt road. It's located on the right. There are also a few cemeteries located in Upper Strasburg. The Franklin County Historical Society in Chambersburg has a pretty listing of cemeteries and those buried there. If there is a "Horse Valley Cemetery" please let me know and it's location. Amy
Looking for Christian Best who married Sussanna LUTZ daughter of Martin Lutz.

Can anyone tell me anything about the Horse Valley Cemetery? I think it is near Fannetsburg and Strausburg(?) Mountain. I am told there is a Keefer Castleton Jones there. Castleton Brooks Jones was my gg grandfather and he Sarah McKelvey. His son, Samuel Kephart Jones, married Fannie Ida Keefer. There has to be a connection somewhere but I'll be darned if I know it. Would like to find dates of birth and death as well as a wife or children buried there. Thanks Mike Jones
Hi... Can anyone tell me who is the curator for the Salem Evangelical (White) Lutheran Church in Guilford Township, Nr. Marion, Franklin Co. Pa? I would also like to know who I could contact to see if there are church records available. Thanks in advance Elaine McDonald

Someone asked last week about the meaning of 'court tipster' as an occupation. I still have not found it, but did find this interesting site that give 100's of old definitions. While it is a British site, many of the terms were carried to America. http://www.gendocs.demon.co.uk/trades.html#C Here are some definitions from the site: COURT FACTOR A person who bought and sold courts (small carts). COURT ROLLER A person in charge of the court rolls and records. COURT TOOLMAKER A manufacturer of tools used to produce carts known as courts. COURTIER The owner and driver of a horse and cart known as a court.
In my research I show two Gift ladies who married into the GEORGE family in Franklin County. Margaret Gift , b. about 1808 daughter of George Gift who d. in 1812-13 and his wife Catherine - m. Frederick GEORGE about 1824 in Franklin County - probably in the Grindstone Hill area. Margaret Gift, b. 3 July 1826 and married to Jeremiah W. George on 12 April 1849. Margaret died on 17 Sep 1912 and had a surviving son, Edward B. George at the time. It would be helpful if I could contact a descendant of Edward B. George. Any and all help with this search will be greatly appreciated. Janet
