Hi all The Alexander Hamilton Memorial free Library is not closing the PA room! We talked to the head libraian Dina this morning and she assures us their are no plans on closing the PA Room, she does not know who started the rumor but she wants to put an end to it right now. Instead we need volunteers to help show newcomers on how to use the equipment and explain the resources that are there. The Waynesboro Historical Society now has volunteers, and has expanded their resources and along with the Teas and picture exhibits has a genealogical meeting on Wednesday Sept 13, at 7 p.m. Ruth Gembe a long time historian and genealogist of Waynesboro is going to host the meeting. My wife and I volunteer at all the local Libraries and societies and know first hand of all the resources. Joe & Sue Barnhart

John : The Green Hill Cemetary was opened in 1874 as a Public Cemetery , The Office is located about 50 yards from the corner of South Potomac Street and Cemetary Avenue on Potomac Street , Several tombstones have been discovered lately , I believe many are prior to 1874 making Me believe it was a Family Cemetery before being opened as a Public Cemetery , I have records of pretty much of all franklin county cemeteries on CD. Note that 2 of My ancestors are burried at Green Hill Cemetery they were twin infants John S. & Annie S. born & died 1861 thats 13 years prior to Green Hill Cemetery opening ! I lived less then a mile away from Green Hill Cemetery for the first 39 years of My 43 years of My life , I know the Waynesboro area ! good luck if "You get a chance to look through thier records as they are kept in a safe" Thier Address is: 953 South Potomac Street , Waynesboro,PA. Thier Phone Number is : (717)762-2759 Note it is "Green Hill Cemetery" NOT "Greenhill Cemetery" Glenn E. I'm fromOhio and made a visit to Greenhill on Aug. 24, looking for my Grandfather, who died in 1896. The people at the house on the cemetery property have great old records. With pitchfirk in hand and a spade, they uncovered his old marker for me. The Superintendent is John D. Null. His phone # (717)762-2750 Warren
John: I have been to Greenhill cemetery recently and look thru their books, the cemetery office is right on the corner of the cemetery. I can find the telephone number if you want and you could ask them for a look up.That cemetery is not real old goes back to 1870's. The oldest one would be Burns Memorial Cemetery. John, The Coyle Free Library at Main and King St. in Chambersburg has a transcription of Greenhill and so does the Franklin County Historical Society Library. The Historical Society library is located on the second floor of the old jail, just one block up King street from Coyle. You may want to check their hours on the website. http://www.rootsweb.com/~pakhs/ ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, September 08, 2006 8:34 AM Subject: Re: [PAFRANKL] Greenhill Cemetery > Does anyone have the listing for Greenhill Cemetery in Waynesboro PA.
