Willie, Let me know when you plan to be in the area & I will try to help you find the burial place you are looking for. The Franklin County Historical Society has a listing of all the burials (if there is a stone) in Franklin County. Wilma: I was recently there, the main cemetery is located on the south side of Route 16 just as you enter Mercersburg and across the road from Marshall Academy. What you need to do is call or go to the funeral home , their name is : Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, telephone 717-328-2812they have all the records for that cemetery. Can't remember the street they are located on, but it's right off main street (rt. 16). There are also that I know of two very old nearby cemeteries one is the Seceder Cemetery off of Rt. 16, however with few excepts all the stones are gone, the other one that I know of it Slate Hill Cemetery, Church Hill Road, Kittchotinng Hist. Soc. I think has a record of the burials there. Why call Burn's Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro,PA. Burn's Hill Memorial Cemetary thats located in West Virginia . I guess there is a difference between being a , Family Distortian and a Genealogist ! Perhaps He usually refers to his Mother Sis or His sister Mother simply because thier females in the family !Exaxct Names. Exact Spelling and Exact Locations are important to Genealogists where as Family Distortians will even believe that John told Phillip that told Sarah that told Andrew that told the Family Distortian that his Great-grand father died 30 February 2009 ! it looks good but not based on FACTS! Greetings, all! I've run into some brick walls with my Grandma Walter's (nee: Mary Elizabeth Mosser) families, Mosser and Sharar. I know that both families lived in Mercersburg for awhile; Grandma was born there, and I've found her family there on a Census or two. I'd like to tramp around some Mercersburg-area cemeteries at some point this fall, looking for clues. However, it's probably been a good 20-25 years since I've been to Mercersburg, and I'm not sure where any cemeteries are located. I haven't been able to find any listings online, and a recent search of the Waynesboro telephone directory wasn't helpful. Is there anyone on the list from Mercersburg--or with information on Mercersburg--who can point me in the right direction? Thanks! Wilma ("Willie") Walter Searching for WALTER, MOSSER, HENICLE, SHARAR, CREAGER, BAKER, BECKNER, GATES, GEORGE, KNEPPER, MONN and more...
Glenn: Thank you - however, the information that I am actually seeking is the names of the Burns families from prior to 1829, which is the year my great-grandfather was born, to try to ascertain the names of his parents. I have reached an obstacle in trying to find out their names starting with George in 1829 and going backwards. So, I thought that it I found the names of Burns families who were in the area before he was born I could go forward in time to try to find him. Thank you, anyway - I truly appreciate your time and effort and the information you forwarded to me. I can now rule out these 2 Georges as being ancestors to my great-grandfather. Have a good day. To Willie Walter and Peggy Price, I, too, have a Mann/Mann from Franklin Ço.--George Conrad Mann, b. 25 Apr 1737 in New Holland, Lancaster Co. Died about 1807 in Franklin Co. His wife Anna Maria died in 1800/1801. They were married about 1762 in York County. My branch comes from son George Conrad Jr., b 3 Mar 1763 in Hanover, York Ço., which is now Franklin Co. Supposed to be buried in Old Forge Cemetery. Was a carpenter. Died intestate in 1831. He was christened in St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Hanover. His log house and barn were sold after his death to pay debts. I see the Kneppers, Snowbergers. Conrad Jr. married Elizabeth about 1783, who died about 1850 at age 84. (Does anyone have maiden names and actual dates for these wives?) Anyway, Conrad Jr. and Elizabeth had a daughter Elizabeth b. 22 March 1789 (or 29 Feb. 1780) in Washington Twp., Franklin Co., who married Ludwick Berkheimer in 1811 and they moved to Bedford County. Ludwick was born 4 July 1776 or 1778. I don't know his death date. Elizabeth died 30 Nov 1880 by one account. He and this Elizabeth produced many Berkheimers and one (Samuel, 1820) married Anna Maria Darr and I come down from that union through a daughter Sarah Emory Berkheimer. Be glad to look at any Monn/Mann information that would fill in my missing information. Margie Bridges

Well I usually refer to it as Burns Memorial, simply because of the fact that it does have a memorial to the Burns, secondly unless you are east bound there is no way to drive into the cemetery and past the sign because the entrance to slanted at an extreme angle. I have never used this entrance myself as I go up the side street and into the little driveway between houses which lead into the cemeteries roadway and directly to the caretakers shed (he is a nice guy and a font of info) Gordon Crooks ----- Original Message ----- From: "Willie Walter" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, September 11, 2006 9:33 PM Subject: Re: [PAFRANKL] Burns Memorial Cemetery > >From: "DiPaola, Susan" <[email protected]> >>Date: Mon, 11 Sep 2006 15:39:45 -0400 >> >>Mr. Gordon Crooks: I saw in your e-mail response the reference to the >>Burns Memorial Cemetery. Hi Susan , My Ancestor was (Mary) Elizabeth Burns , born 1805 in Franklin Co., PA . I can tell you what I know to be true from info I received from the Burns Family . Elizabeth had a niece named Anna who married John A Reiber ( Reiver on census for 1850 Ohio ) Her Father was Daniel Burns who was born in Franklin Co., PA and migrated to Ohio late 1820s ( that makes Daniel one of Elizabeths' Brothers ) . Anna and John Reiber raised 2 of my GrGrGrandfathers sisters , while her Father Daniel raised his youngest brother . Living near Elizabeth in 1850 Mercersburg / Montgomery , is a Henry Burns , I believe this is also a brother , and there is mention of her having a brother William . Elizabeth married Jacob Beck they were said to both be young when they were married , first son was named George and second son was named William ( they had 13 kids ) Now for what research I have not confirmed , there was an Alexander Burns living in Franklin Co., PA 1810 with a daughter in that right age group for Elizabeth . Alexander would have been 16 or older to be named on the census , this doesn't mean he was her Father or the head of the Household ? I can't trace Alexander I have tried . My Computer was down recently and I lost the Burns Family File , but I can email my family in Mercersburg and ask them to resend it to me , I live in Phila., but my Family has been in Franklin for over 200 yrs . Franklin County Historical Society has a book that gives quite alot of information on the early Rea/Renfrew family. I had looked up some of it for my aunt who is a descendant of that family. If you give me the info on who you are looking for I will check it the next time I am there. Don't recall any intentional invites, but things happen. Thanks for the reply, MiltW ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kim S." <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, September 10, 2006 2:37 PM Subject: [PAFRANKL] (no subject) >I seen your name in my e mail as an invite to a website??
