Hi! I have some ancestors that I have come to a dead end with--thought maybe you could help, since you are all talking about this area. Danl Thomas born about 1821 in Franklin, Green, PA(Scotland area), can't find a death date, he seemed to have vanished after the 1850 census. He was married to Caroline Dubbs born about 1821, her father Jacob Dubbs vanished about the same time. Danl had 2 brothers -John and George "Geo". I could trace Caroline until 1900 census she was in Kansas with her son Zeb, then nothing, don't know when she died, where she is buried, nothing. Any help would be great since I'm here in Kansas. Thanks again! Roxie
Hi List, Does anyone have marriages from about 1823 for Montgomery Twp area of Franklin Co. I'm looking for John Shinafield (many different spellings) and Nancy or Agnes Horbraker. (maybe Hawbaker). I have quite a bit of information from Chambersburg, Mercersburg, and Hagerstown, but am trying to pinpoint where these folks may have lived along Licking Creek. Thanks Rob Shinafelt Powell, OH

It's okay...you should've seen some of the variations I was coming up with when I was trying to Google "Conococheague" earlier today... I can *pronounce* it, but could never *spell* it... (I was trying to find the website for the Conococheague Institute--http://www.geocities.com/welshrunpa/) Took me awhile to come up with something that Google recognized as *close* to that word. Oy! I need to just remember "Welsh Run" the next time I want to look it up at work... I'd wanted to ask if anyone from the list has done research there, BTW... Hi, I was just curious why Glenn is so hostile to other people? It was my impression that this list is supposed to be used to help others. Recent comments don't seem helpful, in my opinion. Rebecca L. Newburn Researching Pope/Boppe Family Franklin County, PA
Dear Franklin Co. List, Did I read that ya'll have listed all the burial sites in Franklin Co? If so, can someone look up JOB MCPHERSON (d. 1856) who lived in Metal, Peters community, St Thomas post office? Do you know if they would have a death certificate at state archives for someone that early? Or where I could order one? Would it be from the Franklin County clerk? He's my deadend, genealogically speaking. THANKS! Lianne Ruppel --------------------------------- Get your own web address for just $1.99/1st yr. We'll help. Yahoo! Small Business.
Hi Willie, the largest cemetery is of course on Rt 16. There is a small cemetery on Fayette Street where several black soldiers who fought in the Civil War are buried. If you can give me more of an idea of who you are looking for I can search around. My husband's family and some of mine greatgrandparents are buried in Mercersburg or surrounding cemeteries (i.e. Welsh Run Church of the Brethren cemetery). Willing to help. Margie, I noticed you have a Anna Maria Darr in your line. I have a Darr (Derr) family Franklin CO., PA. I find last name spelled both ways on census and birth records. Joseph Darr (Derr) and Christina had 4 sons and two daughters, all born between 1799-1809. Sons were Jacob, Joseph, John, and George, my line. Can you tell me if this is your Anna Marie's line? Died about 1807 in Franklin Co. His wife Anna Maria died in 1800/1801. They were married about 1762 in York County. My branch comes from son George Conrad Jr., b 3 Mar 1763 in Hanover, York Ço., which is now Franklin Co. Supposed to be buried in Old Forge Cemetery. Was a carpenter. Died intestate in 1831. He was christened in St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Hanover. His log house and barn were sold after his death to pay debts. I see the Kneppers, Snowbergers. Conrad Jr. married Elizabeth about 1783, who died about 1850 at age 84. (Does anyone have maiden names and actual dates for these wives?) Anyway, Conrad Jr. and Elizabeth had a daughter Elizabeth b. 22 March 1789 (or 29 Feb. 1780) in Washington Twp., Franklin Co., who married Ludwick Berkheimer in 1811 and they moved to Bedford County. Ludwick was born 4 July 1776 or 1778. I don't know his death date. Elizabeth died 30 Nov 1880 by one account. He and this Elizabeth produced many Berkheimers and one (Samuel, 1820) married Anna Maria Darr and I come down from that union through a daughter Sarah Emory Berkheimer. Be glad to look at any Monn/Mann information that would fill in my missing information. Here is my Derr/Darr line: Christian DERR (1745/48-1824) + Magdalena SMELCHER/SCHMELTZER (d. 1818) Henry DARR (1774-1850?)+ Mary DULL (1789-1847) Christian DARR (1806-1884) + Anna O. (Nancy) ABRAM (1810-1894) Mary Ann DARR (1828-before 1891) + Samuel BERKHEIMER (1820-1892) Sarah Emery BERKHEIMER (1856-1947) + John F. BOWSER (1858-1917) I think your Joseph Derr would be a contemporary of Henry Darr. Henry did have a brother Joseph, but he was the youngest and still at home in 1824 when his father Christian died. Could your Joseph be an uncle of Henry, in other words, be a brother of Christian, Adam, and Henry who I have discovered so far? They all used the same names so this gets confusing. As far as the Monn history at Hamilton Memorial Free Library in Waynesboro, thanks for the lead, Glenn. I will try to get there on one of my annual Penna. trips. I don't suppose they have volunteers to look things up for me, or will do an interlibrary loan? Lora, did you recognize any of the Monn names in my last email? Are they in the book you wrote?
