Ruth, for what it's worth - I searched Barnes and Noble website on "American Methodism" (AM) and it listed 107 items in the "used and out of print" section. Many are very low cost. But you might want to do that search at the library and see what turns up on the catalog. One book they listed is about "two centuries of AM in the Susquehanna area". Several referred to the concept of 200 years of history and focused on it's practice in various states. One of those in particular was published by American Bible Society about 1984. It didn't say if any of them list the pastors, so I don't know if that is the same book you are seeking. Hope that may be helpful to you. Thanks to everyone who responded to my Shockey Family query. Hopefully, I will now have success in my research while in PA. Anne Miller
Tink and list, A book from 1984 would have an ISBN, IF it was printed by a regular publisher, usually on the reverse of the title page (aka the copyright page), the back cover and/or the spine of the book. As this is a church history, however, it may well have been published by the church itself or -- if the history covers more than one church, as the title suggests -- an organization associated with the denomination. Such self-published books might or might not have an ISBN, depending on whether the church/organization knew to apply for one. But Tink is right that author/title/keyword searches will work in most library catalogues. Something with a regional appeal like this might exist only at the church(es) or possibly the local library, however. I checked worldcat.org and found no entries, but perhaps a more localized search would have a better result. Claire K. Tink Miller wrote: > One further clarification - copyright was not my point. Roger I'm wondering if that Mary Barrick could be Mary Rearick. It's also interesting how these families are so intertwined, not only by marriage but also geographically. You list John Jacob Barnhart in Ogle County, Illinois. The brother of Susan Elsie Reymer Barnhart, Jacob Franklin Raymer 1875 - 1963 and yes, the spelling is correct, went to Ogle County from Greencastle and married Nellie Edith Chapman, no children. Glenn Your CD lists Ann Elizabeth Baker m. to Henry W. Barnhart, but does it list also list his wife, Mary Rearick ? The Simon W. Barnhart you mention is S. Witherspoon Barnhart. Do you have anything more on Baker, I am also interested on a portion of that line. Thanks John L. Raymer

One further clarification - copyright was not my point. You aren't looking for the copyright info. You are looking for an ISBN#. Copyright was only mentioned as a guide on to where to find the ISBN #, if there were one. The ISBN# in modern books is always listed on the same page as the copyright information. But - you don't need the copyright information to search the library catalogs. You can use any of the following: the ISBN#, the author, the title, or a keyword from the title or the subject. Sorry if I confused everyone. Tink At 01:29 PM 9/19/06, you wrote: >I have searched the book inside out , there is no copyright . Oops - I didn't realize it was such an old book. Sorry. My technique for that is to log into the "Used & Out of Print" section of the Barnes and Noble website (www.barnesandnoble.com) and search on the name of the author and see if it comes up. Oftentimes book resellers obtain old books for their invventory. Once it gets logged into the bookseller's MIS system, it is assigned an ISBN, regardless when it was published. Then I use that number on Google in search of library catalogs that have it. I have been successful more often than not in finding an ISBN #. If I don't know the author, I search on keywords from the title. Booksellers often make mistakes or abbreviate titles, so using a keyword search seems to be more effective. The local library computer system will have access to all the online library catalogues in the country and they will be more than happy to help you learn how to search it and request an inter-library loan. Good luck! Tink At 01:29 PM 9/19/06, you wrote: >I have searched the book inside out , there is no copyright . Hello Fellow Listers: Since we're on a roll with the surname BARNHART..... My 3rd-great-grandfather was named Peter Barnhart TAYLOR and he died in Lack Twp., Juniata Co. in 1895 and was to have been born in July 1810 in Amberson Valley, Franklin Co.. The first time I find him on the Tax Lists was in 1840 and he was in Fannett Twp., Franklin Co.. My questions..... 1. Does anyone know who his parents are? 2. Was his mother's maiden name BARNHART??? 3. Was there a doctor or a church official/pastor by the last name of BARNHART in the area when Peter was born - that Peter's parents would have named him after??????? Donna Heller Zinn of Newville, Cumberland Co., PA.
I have searched the book inside out , there is no copyright . From the letters written about the church from many pastors in the area , the closest date I can get is 1984 . The book is a soft cover and on the back it says 200th Jubilee of 200 years of American Methodism . There are many names of those who designated gifts to the church in 1984 among them is a Mr and Mrs Merle H Bingaman , Dr and Mrs Richard McClarren , some other surnames ; Lowans , Pheil, Garnes , Beard , Grove , Chamberlain , Hawbaker , Hege , Shoop, Gossert, some of these families were married into my Beck family . There is a list of Pastors starting in 1818 with J.Caleb Reynolds and ending with 1980 to present ( I guess 1984 ? ) James A. Diles I would think that the church would have a copy , and the local Library too , but not sure what they would list it as ? Kathy --------------------------------- Stay in the know.
