Hi Shelley For what it's worth my grandfather and his 4 younger siblings who were living in Upton, Franklin County became orphans in 1889. This doesn't specifically address your time frame but there were court records establishing guardianship of the minor orphans at that time some 40 years later than your dates.. While they had the names and vital statistics of the children and the name of the judge there was a vital piece of information left out. According to the records, the guardianship was given to a neighboring farmer and listed his name. Our question then was; why weren't they given to one of the older siblings, some of them who were married. Several months later after much speculating and searching, we discovered that the neighboring farmer was in fact a first cousin who's mother was an older sister to the deceased father. I guess that is what makes this so much fun. John Raymer PS) Unfortunately, my cousin who had found these documents is now in Ireland and I cannot ask him where they were found.
Back in the time period of 1830-1850's does anyone know if Franklin County has adoption or guardian records? Where would I find them if they exist? Was it common for an adoption to be recorded during this time? Thanks Shelley
Jim do you see any Davis infants/children in this list, William and Mildred (Milie) as the parents/-they would of passed between 1839 to 1858. I have guardianship for Fulton Co, PA dated 1878 through orphan's court. Not quite the same as adoption. Often the surviving wife would have to petition for guardianship of her children. By 1880 he was on the census living with his mother. Best Regard, Nance --------------------------------- Get your own web address for just $1.99/1st yr. We'll help. Yahoo! Small Business.

I have just subscribed to the list and was wondering if anyone could add to my research of the George Harden family. Here is what I have: George HARDEN b abt. 1800 in MDor PA d aft. 1880 +Margaret Newmire b 1803 d abt. 1850 m Sept. 15, 1823 in Allegany Co., MD Children: John b. 1828 d abt. 1905 m Caroline Winebrenner Anna Mary b 1835 m Jeremiah Beeghley John and Caroline were my gr-gr grandparents My gr-grandmother was Margaret Ellen Harden b 1852. She married Hanson Porter in Allegany Co. I am trying to find the parents of George HARDEN. It has been suggested that his father may have been Savil HARDEN of PA. Does anyone know if Savil HARDEN had a son named George that was born about 1800? Any HARDEN information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Phyllis

Any idea on husbands, parents, or siblings names? Was she born and lived her entire life in the Waynesboro area? I'm thinking if she can be located in the 1920 or 1930 census then that would rule out the earlier death date you were given. Any ideas on when her marriages took place? Lora
