    2. John: This is part of my line and I have done an extensive search for JACOB RAIMER/REYMER/RAYMER/REAMER/RIMER/REIMER/RAIMER in all years and states of the census records. HE appears no where. I do have him last in the 1870 cneus records as single, age 29 in St. Thomas 0n the same page as his brother Archibald, and the HAWBAKER families....He is shown as a Harness maker and living with his sister and brother in law Jeremiah Hissong. I have a marraige date for he and Catharine Francis of 11/1870. I have a death date for him of 1871. I do not know where I found it. This could account for his not appearing in any other records. If this is true, evidently Catharine Francis remarried perhaps.....this I do not know for sure. My connection to the Hawbaker/Hawbecker families is Ruhammah GRAHAM. 3. Just wanted to say a big "THANK YOU" to everyone who responded on- or off-list to my question about places to visit in Franklin County. I love this list. :-) I hadn't even thought about the Shippensburg Univ. or Chambersburg libraries, so I looked up both of them online. The Fendrick Library in Mercersburg is also on my list, but probably not this trip. I'd like to go there during the week, on whichever day their genealogy room is open. The Conococheague Institute is also on my list, though probably not for this weekend. (I need to check their hours again...I've got it written down, but not here at work with me.) There are so many places I want to visit, but I need to spread it out. Mom always has a list of things for me to do when I come home for a day or two, so I have to make time for those, too. :-) Glenn mentioned the Mormon church. Can anyone comment on the resources at the Family History Centers in Chambersburg or Fairview? According to the website, the Chambersburg location is open on Saturdays, so I may try to check it out. I suspect that I'm spoiled, though. The closest FHC for me, in Kensington, MD, is usually open six days/week, and from what I've heard, it's large compared to most. (Probably because the church is there by the Washington Temple.) However, I'm hopeful that the FHCs in Franklin County might have more "local" information. Again, though, I was pleasantly surprised to find a printed index to the Mount Zion cemetery (Quincy) at the Kensington FHC--didn't expect to find something so specific down here. I'm guessing that it was at least 20 years old, and had some dates that were no longer legible when I visited in August, so it was a great "find." Thanks again for all of your help! Peace, Willie Walter

    3. Dear Jim Yes you did send me that info on the Seavolts and I thank you very much for your help. I did try to email direct but it was rejected. I also have Mary Seavolt that married Edminston in my data base. I think she is a possible sister to my Jacob Seavolt and that their father was also named Jacob although the father is listed as Cyrus in the family records I received from Seavolts that went to OH. I find nothing in PA on a Cyrus but I do find an older Jacob in Bedford Co about 1800. Best Regard, Nance --------------------------------- How low will we go? Check out Yahoo! For those who've been, what can I expect to find there? Do they have birth/death/marriage records, or do I need to visit the courthouse for those? Depending on how much time I actually have, I also want to visit the PA room at the Alexander Hamilton Library, and maybe the Waynesboro Historical Society. And of course, I want to tramp around a cemetery or two. :-) Are there any other places I should consider checking out, maybe not this weekend, but during future visits home? Thanks in advance! 2. Hi Willie, The Shippensburg University (College) Library has many, many newspapers on film. At one time they had a lot of film readers but have changed since I was last there. There also used to be a Pennsylvania Room dedicated to genealogy. They also have books, census, etc. Might want to call and check. I don't know the library phone number but if you call 717-477-1134 they might be able to get that number for you. Helen (Gipe) Miller

    3. If all goes well, I may be able to spend the entire coming weekend--including Friday--at my parents' house in Waynesboro. I'd like to spend some time doing research while I'm there. I see that the Franklin County Historical Society - Kittochtinny is open Friday and Saturday, and I'd like to check out its genealogical library. Peace, Willie

    3. Hello All, I came across a couple of interesting items recently that I though might be useful to some of you. First a nice color map of PA showing all of the counties and the other was a book on Chambersburg in Franklin Co. that, near the beginning, lists all of the members of the PA Historical Society as of 1856. I found one possible ancestor of my own on the list (Chambers), now I just have to figure where, or if, he fits in! I scanned the first part of the book and the map and placed them on my web site at http://www.midatlanticarchives.com if anyone is interested in viewing them - the book is listed simply as "Chambersburg". 1. Re: [PAFRANKL] Adoption Question
    2. Shelley, I don't know about adoption records, but I have seen guardianship records as early as 1813 in Franklin Co. in either orphan's court or chancery court.
