Do you happen to know the date on the letter? Might help me figure out if he fits in my line. Where is the Fairview Cemetery? I'm not familiar with it--at least not by name. 3. My Little line is: Lalita Kay/Charles Grant 1930- /Charles Benedict 1902-1978/Albert Charles changed to Charles Albert 1869-1939/Pius James 1821-1900/James Jacob 1788-1870. I haven't spread my tree limbs out much so it's possible there is a connection with your Dull/Wile family. I'm focusing on the siblings of Charles Albert Little and trying to figure out where a Sarah J. Gouker came from. She shows up on the 1880 census as a 1 yr old grand daughter living with Pius James and Mary Anne Little (Charles Albert's parents). His sister, Louisa Jane Little, is a possible mother to Sarah J. if she married a Gouker. And now, I just realized, I should have had the "cemetery lookup" for Louisa Jane Little Gouker! There's a person with the name of one of Louisa Jane's brothers, Joseph Robert Little, living with a Gouker family on the 1880 census. He's listed as a brother-in-law. This Gouker's wife's name is Mary Jane and other researchers have thought she is the elusive Louisa Jane. However, I think Louisa Jane died prior to the 1880 census because her mother, Mary Anne Stein Little had 15 children (per 1900 census); of which 9 were still living in 1908 when she died (per her obit). The nine children listed in 1908 do not include Louisa Jane. Louisa Jane does not appear on the 1880 census but Sarah J. Gouker does as a 1 year old. Confusing enough? Maybe some brave soul will read all this and it will ring a bell. p.s. I don't have a family connection with the Kuhns who lived in York/Adams/Franklin counties. I wish I did! Kuhn is the brick wall on my husband's side. They are from New York. Lalita Kuhn [email protected]

    1. Re: [PAFRANKL] Reymer/Hawbecker
    2. Is the Hawbaker Field Cemetery easy to find and assessable ? What village would it be close to ? For those researching persons buried at Hawbaker Field Cemetery, you may be interested to know that there is a cemetery transcription available online at the following URL: _http://www.interment.net/data/us/pa/franklin/hawbecker/index.htm_ (http://www.interment.net/data/us/pa/franklin/hawbecker/index.htm) Please note that the transcriber has given the latitude and longitude description as: Lat: 39° 49' 00"N, Lon: 77° 48' 39"W I hope that will help you locate it. Should anyone be making a trip there, I would love a digital photo of the following stones for my family: Gipe, Elizabeth, d. Sep 18, 1850, age 8mn and 22da, d/o George and Elizabeth Gipe, George, b. Aug 24, 1852, d. Nov 16, 1853, age 1yr 2mn 16da, s/o George and Elizabeth It is my understanding that this is a fairly small cemetery. At one time I played around with the names of those buried there and found some possible family connections. For example, the children listed above are believed to be the children of George and Elizabeth (Barncord) GIPE. The following child: Hawbecker, Catherine, d. Aug 10, 1853, age 10mn and 11da, d/o Jacob and Catherine is believed to be the daughter of Jacob HAWBECKER and Catherine KUHN. Catherine KUHN is the sibling of Isaac KUHN who was married to Mary (Polly) BARNCORD, sister of the Elizabeth (Barncord) GIPE above. Therefore, if this supposition is correct and these families are connected, there is a possibility that others located in this cemetery are related as well. If, after taking a look at the transcription anyone notices any further family connections, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts. Shelly

    3. I'm also interested in the resources available at the Mormon Library. Unfortunately, the times I stopped by the library was closed. I'm visiting the Chambersburg area next Friday, perhaps I'll have more luck. My ancestors, the Rocks, were involved with building that first church. (Quincy twp. area??) I'd love to know where that first Mormon church was built and if it is still standing. Anyway, back to my original question, are there resources on site to consult or must they be ordered?

    2. Have you found anything about any of the Rock families in Franklin moving into Giles Co. Virginia? There are a few Rock's in with my Monn family, but I haven't really researched them (the Rock family). Now go down into Giles Co., VA where my Lucas family was and there was a Thomas Rock born in PA. One of his daughters, Malinda Rock, married Madison Haines Lucas. They were my ggg-grandparents. Lora

I'd love to know where that first Mormon church was built and if it is still standing. <> FYI- The "first" Mormon Church was NOT built in Franklin County. This was a splinter group from the main body of the Mormon Church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) that set up a church in Franklin County under Sidney Rigdon, who was not made the leader of the Mormon Church when Joseph Smith, the founder, was assassinated. Brigham Young was made the leader of the Mormon Church after the death of Joseph Smith. When Sidney Rigdon was not made the leader of the Mormon Church, he took a group of followers and split from the Mormon Church and headed east from Nauvoo, Illinois to Pittsburgh and then to Franklin County. He and his followers purchased land and built a "temple". It was in fact a renovated barn where they held services. Then when Sidney Rigdon "prophesied" the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ on a particular date and it did not happen, the splinter group itself splintered and fell apart, leaving Rigdon with no followers. Many returned to the main body of the Mormon Church, which by then was immigrating to Salt Lake City. Others stayed in Franklin County, and melded into the community. I hope this clarifies things for you. Also FYI, the first Mormon Church meeting was held in the home of Peter Whitmer in Upper New York State (Fayette, NY) on April 6, 1830. The Whitmer family came out of Lancaster County, PA and were originally part of that prominent Mennonite family. You can see this family in our database at: http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=familyhart&id=I270960 It can probably be argued that the first Church Building for the Mormons that was specifically built for worship was in Kirkland, Ohio in 1831. 3. A query for those with access to those wonderful cemetery listings... I'm trying to figure out where these individuals are buried: --Rose Anna Sharar Mosser (my great-grandmother), born around 1860, don't know date of death --Mary E. Sharar Peregoy (her sister), born around 1865, date of death probably between 1920 and 1930 (she still appeared on the '20 Census, haven't found her on 1930) --David A. Sharar (their brother), born around 1863, date of death after the 1930 Census --Hattie Peregoy (one of Mary's daughters), born 29 May 1891, died January 1979 I'm pretty sure that Rose lived around Mercersburg most of her life (she's on the census there as a child, and my grandmother was born there), but I know that David and the Peregoys moved to Waynesboro. "Uncle Dave" was a grocer in Waynesboro, and one of the founders of Otterbein United Brethren Church. Thanks in advance! Peace, Willie

    3. In my GrGrGrandfathers Military records , there is a letter from a Jacob Sharar , claims he is his Cousin , ( Hezekiah Beck ) . I have not been able to connect to any Sharar Family , but there was a Sharar living with Hezekiah's Brother Wm and his wife Malinda Auman Beck , so it might be possible he was related through a family marriage ? I found some listings for Auman in the Stenger / Spenger Cemetery , I wasn't looking for Sharar at the time , but Williams first wife was Martha Stenger / Spenger ( you could try the Family Cemetery ) I found a grave of Jacob Sharar in the Fairview Cemetery , there were a few Sharar graves near his .
