But FYI, the cemetery information I forwarded to Joe Barnhart for the database was information I copied directly from the grave markers when I visited Green Hill back in August, not from family Bibles. And FWIW, I know that the dates of death are absoluetly correct for four of the individuals I sent to Joe, because I was there at the grave sites during their burials. ;-) Please know, Glenn, that some--possibly many, or most--of us *do* understand what is and is not proper documentation. For example, we'd trust an original birth certificate over a baptismal certificate, marriage license, census, etc., since the birth certificate was issued shortly after the birth, not years later, based upon someone's memory. As for census records, while I know they're hardly gospel (ask me how many variations I've seen of "HENICLE" or "SHARAR" in the few months I've been back to researching...heck, even the Union Army couldn't spell "HENICLE" correctly...which maybe *shouldn't* be surprising, grin, or ask me about the lazy Census taker who one year assumed that since my g-g-grandfather was born in France, so were his wife and children...WRONG!), I've sure found them handy for pointing me in the right direction--or *any* direction--more than a few times. As the saying goes, "YMMV" ("Your mileage may vary"), but I'll keep using the Census forms as a launch pad. Peace, Willie

    2. Don't forget about the Find A Grave website: findagrave.com Ton's of cemeteries are listed there and you can add names, pictures, a little something about the person. Sometimes I've found a family member there that wasn't listed in any of the other databases we would normally look through. It's a great way to share, especially if you have any photo's including headstone photo's. Lora

    3. Greetings! Well, my head is spinning from everything I found this weekend. I didn't get to visit nearly as many places as I'd hoped, but since I'm not far from Franklin County, there will be plenty of other visits. I was very impressed with the resources in the Alexander Hamilton Library's Pennsylvania Room. I spent about 1-1/2 hours there on Friday and 5-6 more there on Saturday. I could've easily spent 2-3 more days there. I spent a few minutes on the computer, browsing through Mr. Barnhart's cemetery index. Thanks to you and the others who put all the work into that, Joe! Two questions: 1--I think I found my g-g grandparents, listed in "Fairfield Union." Can anyone tell me specifically where that is? 2--Are there plans to update the database, and if so, may I contribute some information? For example, I noticed that my Walter grandparents and great-grandparents weren't listed. They're all at Green Hill in Waynesboro, along with a few of their children. The stones are all still in good condition and legible, so I'm guessing that their particular section of the cemetery hasn't been transcribed. (With the size of Green Hill, it's not surprising--transcribing the whole place would be a daunting task!) I'm happy to pass on what I have...just need to know where to send it. Thanks! Peace, Willie
