    1. [PAFRANKL] Need information in the Rouzerville PA Ringgold MD area
    2. Lesley L Shockey
    3. I am looking for the name of the owner of the farm at the intersection of Harbaugh Church Road and the Rouzerville - Ringgold road. The large two story house and large barns faces Harbaugh Church Road about 300 feet east of PA Rt 2007 or MD Rt 418. In the corn field across from this house is the 96 mile marker of the Mason-Dixon survey. The diary of Charles Mason in his recording of the Mason-Dixon survey lists Staphel Shockey's house as located 7 chains north of this which would place it behind the house described above. Staphel was the nickname for my 5th great grandfather, John Christopher Shockey, who owned the 3rd Resurvey of Sarah's Delight in the 1750s and 1760s. Some of the descendants of his son Jacob still live on a portion of the 1820 acres but do not know who owns the farm in question. Information can be sent to me directly at LesShockey@wildblue.net Thanks for any leads, Les

    3. What great information!! I plan on getting involved and making myself heard. Pennsylvania isn't the only state that makes it difficult and expensive to find vital records (New York, for example), but perhaps other states will follow suit when they see the support of others, especially from people like me who live out-of-state. 1. [PAFRANKL] Frederick Byer grave
    2. A number of years ago I visited Franklin Co. and photographed the graves of Frederick Byer, his wife, and daughter (Elizabeth) in the Hoke/Byer cemtery. The gravestones are not in great shape and difficult to read, but I wonder if 1) any church or cemetery records exist that might state what the inscriptions are, or 2) if anyone in the Franklin Co. area would be willing to go to the cemetery to see if the inscriptions are at all legible firsthand. I am particularly interested in the wife's stone, as there seems to be much confusion on the internet and in many websites, as to her last name (Hochlander or Moyer). Since the daughter's name is listed as Byer, wife of Gabriel Carpenter, I had hopes that the wife's maiden name might also have been used on the stone, but unfortunately, that is the stone in the worse condition and I cannot read anything from my photograph. I would love to hear from anyone with information on this family or cemetery Thanks in advance. 1. [PAFRANKL] Sarah Stouffer, b. abt. 1800, Maryland -- who was her husband?
    2. In the 1850 census, Hamilton Twp., are found Susan Stouffer, 50, with children Daniel, 25, Elizabeth, 22, Susan 19, and Hannah, 15.? Daniel was a miller.?? Children all born PA.? She is also found in Chambersburg in 1860 with the daughters. A review of the 1840 census of Franklin County does not reveal a likely match to this family -- only Abraham Stouffer, age 40-50 of Guilford Twp. has a close match to the childrens' gender and age combination, but I'm pretty sure his wife was Esther Lehman and he was the son of Abraham (1780 - 1857) who went to Blair, Ontario. The "Family Hart" Pennsylvania Dutch site does not have a Stouffer family that lines up with this one.? Does anyone recognize it? Thank you. Don Boyd Centerville, Ohio

    3. Shelly, As far as the death record goes, much of that is given by a family member. Maybe they couldn't remember Chambersburg and said Shippensburg by mistake!! This practice still goes on today. When my father-in-law died (2001) I was there when they were filling out the paperwork. When they asked questions about where he was born, and his mothers maiden name, Everyone turned and looked at me!! I gave those answers to the best of my knowledge, but I was really surprised. What church was that taken from? That would give you a clue as to what church they went to. To answer number one, I don't think there are any records for the county that early. The baptism record usually will do for a birth record. As for your other questions, unless you can find other church records, you may not be able to figure out the birth dates. Where did you find that James was born in Shippensburg? On what document, I mean.... Just kind of thinking out loud, so to speak. Also, what was William's occupation? That may have something to do with the moving all around. Do you know where this family went? Can you find cemetery records (that will give you birth dates, sometimes) Otterbein was a United Brethren minister. The United Brethren and Methodist are now combined, but back then weren't too far from each other. United Brethren is different then the Brethren Church you are thinking of. I don't think that they would have been a part of that Brethren, as some of those Brethren are considered "Plain People". I have a couple of questions to pose to help understand some information I have. I would appreciate any input or suggestions that you share. I am hitting a brick wall. I know there are other Davis families in Franklin Co, | | My great great grandfather William Davis (b. abt. 1814) lived in Antrim, so noted on the 1843 Tax List and 1850 census. I have not verified that he was living there prior to 1843, but would assume based on other information, such as a birth of a child. He sold his property in 1858 and the family left the area. William and his wife Mildred had a son born in 11838/39 in Chambersburg (Joseph Brand Davis), a second son born in Shippensburg in 1849/50, and the rest have not been verified but assumed to also be born somewhere in Franklin County, with daughter Susan being born in 1855, son William Otterbein Davis being born in 1857. This family is documented as mulatto, William is assumed to be? the child or grandchild of a white and black slave. | | 1. any records available to verify Joseph B. Davis's birth in Chambersburg (info was taken from baptism record)? | 2. if living in Antrim, why would James be born in Shippensburg (birth listed as Franklin County Pa on death record)? | 3. any reocrds avaible to verify Susan and William O's birth's.? Otterbein is the name of the founder of the Brethern church. maybe they went to that church, not sure. | | Thanks, Shelley | ? | | | | | | ?Remember Today's SOLDIER is Tomorrow's VETERAN | Know your Roots, They are Long and Strong | | ------------------------------- | To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PAFRANKL-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above.
