    1. BROOKS & BLUE EYE Road

    3. Hi again Dee, So you must have driven past our front door, at least you did if you came from Spring Creek to Corry. We live just inside the city limits of Corry, on the east side of town. If you had lunch at the Log Cabin on Route 6, that was built by my uncle Vere Baker. He had an ice cream parlor there when I was a teen-ager. It is now owned by my cousin Marshall Baker. In answer to your question, Blue Eye was the local Indian from whom my ancestor Henry Brooks purchased land when he came to this area. I have not been working on the Brooks line, but am relying on some sketchy information that a cousin gave me. It may be his father Stephen who came to this area and bought the land, on second thought. I see that Stephen's second wife, Hannah Geer, is buried in Spring Creek, PA. The Brooks line is English. It is believed, according to the information that I have, that his [and my] immigrant ancestors, Stephen, John, and Henry Brooks came to America from England about 1660. We are descended from Henry, who was born in Cheshire, England in 1639. Incidently, I have some of John Brook's prescriptions for family remedies, but have never tried them! I will try to post this to the Warren Co. list. Maybe there are some Brooks researchers out there who have better information than I do. Anyway, now you know the local legend of Blue Eye. Isn't it amazing that people can live all their lives in an area and never learn the interesting local lore such as the origin of the name Blue Eye?!!
