    3. >From 'The History of Warren Co' by Schenck: Davis, Willard J., Youngsville p.o., Brokenstraw (first), was born in Youngsville, Warren county, in 1828. He was married in 1850 to Laura Littlefield, who was born in Brokenstraw township in 1829. She died in March, 1868, leaving a family of three children -- Walter L., Homer F., and Mary Alice, who was married in 1881 to Mr. J.L. Babbitt of Grand Valley. Willard J. Davis then married his second wife, Meada Root, of Farmington, in September,1869. They have two children -- Grace, born in 1870; and Joe. Mr. Davis is a representative man of his town; was a justice of the peace for five years, a school director for twenty-four years, and is active in all interests relating to his town. He was reared on his father's farm, but at an early age gave his attention to the culture of bees, and is now the largest apiarist in Western Pennsylvania, and is also engaged in general farming. He was a son of Abraham and Ruth (Mead) Davis. She was born in Meadville on August 16, 1789, and her husband, Abraham was born in New Jersey on March 22, 1782. They were married on November 12, 1807, and had a family of ten children -- Elijah, born in 1813; DARIUS, born in 1815; William A., born in 1817; John, born in 1819; Asahel, born in 1824; P. Fillmore, born in 1825; Willard J., born in 1828; Elsie, born in 1808; Susan born in 1809; and Anna, born in 1820; Elsie died in 1850, and John in 1840. Abraham died on March 14, 1863, and his wife Ruth, died on January 25, 1867. Abraham was an early teacher, and became a succesful farmer. He was also interested in the lumber business, and shipped lumber to New Orleans via the Allegheny River. He was a son of Elijah and Desiah (Littell) Davis. Elijah settled in Warren county soon after the close of the Revolutionary War. They had a family of six sons and three daughters, only one of whom, the youngest, is now living -- James, now eighty-two ears of age. Elijah was born in 1757, and participated in the War of the Revolution, and died in the northern part of the county in 1823.' 3. >From 'History of Warren Co' by Schenck: 'Willis H Houghtling started a business in hardware about three years and a half ago, and In November, 1886, first occupied his present quarters (Freehold Township).' 'Houghtling, W H., Bear Lake p.o., Freehold, general hardware merchant is one of the most enterprising business men in the county.' 'Porter, Abraham V., Warren, was born in Reading, Steuben county, NY, on October 28, 1810, and came to Warren county in 1831, and assisted in building the first stone jail in Warren, He settled in Conewango with his mother in 1832, on the farm he now owns and occupies, all of which he has cleared and improved himself. The log cabin in which he first resided is still standing. He was a son of Robert and Nelling (Houghtaling) Porter. He was married in 1836 to Margaret Snyder, who was a daughter of William and Hannah Snyder, of Glade township. They have had a family of thirteen children born to them, nine of whom have grown to maturity -- Maria, Sarah, Alice, Emma J., John W., Norman, William, Delia, and Belle. William now resides on the homestead and carries on the farm. He was married on October 16, 1882, to Maggie Brown, a daughter of Alexander Brown, of Glade township. They have had one chid born to them -- Clyde.' There is also a short paragraph on their son: John W. Hope this helpful. 3. While visitng with my mother in central PA recently, I discovered this paper on the Wetmore Jackson Cemetery in Conewango Township, Warren County, PA. She thinks that she got it from someone at the Warren County Historical Society. I have reproduced it as it appeared - with the exception of adding the location under the cemetery name. The spacing is not holding up in the e-mail. I grew up close to this cemetery and can provide directions to it if anyone is interested. I was always intrigued by the stone which fell on Mr. Berry and was then used as his tombstone. As far as I have determined I have no relatives in this cemetery. My interest was solely in terms of proximity to my childhood home. Hope that this provides some help for someone somewhere. 2. Sue Cook
    3. Hi Everyone! Last week I got into a conversation on the Virginia Roots list about the circuit-riding preacher, Lorenzo Dow. Lots of us have a Lorenzo Dow 'Somebody' in our data. Since I have a lot of information about the 'original' Lorenzo Dow, they asked if I would post a web page about him. Well, I ran home from work that night and put up the Lorenzo Dow page after supper! I hope you find it interesting. He was something! I can just see him jumping out of a church window onto a horse and riding away shouting that he would be back one year from the day! He did, too! The site is: http://www.acun.com/dentons The link to the article about Lorenzo Dow is about half way down the first page. There may be a few typos from the scanning process. I was in kind of a hurry and will fix them tonight. I hope you enjoy the stories! Blessings! Sue Montgomery-Cook

    3. Hi, Allison: Thank you for your info on Lorenzo BROWN. I also found a Lorenzo Brown in 1860 in Allegan Co MI. Living with another family. He was 20 yrs old at this time. I am researching the TEAL/TEALL/TEEL families who migrated from Pa and NY to MI in the 1845 -1850 time period. I need to trace Lorenzo BROWN to the Buckler family. The daughter of LORENZO BROWN who married into the BUCKLER FAMILY could have been either LENORE or SUSAN. I haven't been able to get that info from the census. I was hoping to find decendents of the BUCKLER family. I'm sending this to the list in case there are decendents out there who might recoginize some of these names: Vera Buckler, John Buckler, Walter Buckler, Harvey Buckler. I need to tie them into the LORENZO BROWN family. Please send any info to Char Duncan. e-mail at chard@serv01.net-link.net Alison Gene Franks wrote: > To those of you who looking for Browns in Warren Co, PA. > > Look at this: > > Census Index: U.S. Selected Counties, 1850 > > Brown, Lorenzo State : PA > County : Warren Co. > Location : Sugar Grove Twp > Year : 1850 > Page # : 235 > Brown, Nathan State : NY > County : Chautauqua Co. > Location : Ellicott > Year : 1850 > Page # : 043 > Brown, Nathan State : NY > County : Chautauqua Co. > Location : Stockton > Year : 1850 > Page # : 258 > Brown, Nathan R. 3. Hi, Suzanne, I also have a Lorenzo BROWN, born in a similar time from as yours, from Warren Co., PA, probably from somewhere around Sugar Grove...or at least near the Chautauqua Co., NY/Warren Co. line. However, I believe that his parents were Ursula TEAL/TEEL and Stephen (?) BROWN. And his siblings were Charles and Clara. Lorenzo is said to have removed to MI, not MN. Lorenzo had a dau (name unk.) who m. John BUCKLER in Bloomingdale Twp, Van Buren Co. MI. Lorenzo's sister, Clara, m. a Mr. GALE and they lived in Mayville, NY. Ursula TEAL's/TEEL's mother was Clarissa PEMBER Teall, to add to the list of names you hopefully might recognize. Sorry to say, I don't recognize any of yours other than Lorenzo. Has someone transcribed the 1850 census and would you be willing to see if you can find a listing for them. Nathen is spelled several ways-Nahen, Nathan, Nathen.
