I lost a short message from 1 August about Grand Valley that I think was sent to me by a person named Sue. Could that person please resend it? Many thanks! Ellen Piehl
Good Morning: I have learned that the Library in Warren has a very nice reference room, and that there is help on-line. You can e-mail "Penny" at <refroom@penn.com> ---they have a tremendous amount of information and are more than willing to help. I hope this will be of interest to a great many of you. Remember - BE SPECIFIC. Have a nice day. I'm off to the RI Archives here in Providence for the day. I am not sure what information you all are looking for, but I have found a wealth of information at the Warren County Courthouse and in the census records. I have found marriage license applications, land records, death records, etc. All with ease. I found the staff helpful and friendly. I have not used the Warren County Historical Society for information, but my aunt has sent me copies of things she thought I would find interesting. The Warren library (on Market Street just down from the courthouse) also has a genealogy section. I have found a lot of information from the many newspapers they have on microfilm as well as from the local city directories. Usually I am in Warren to visit relatives and don't have a lot of time to spend researching, but each time I find several pieces to shed more light on the family tree! I also have gotten information from the Oakland Cemetary as well as the Catholic cemetary next to it. I have done all of this research in person, though. I have never tried any of it by mail.

I have gotten lists of two cemetery records(the whole cemetery) from the historical society. They charged me $7 for them. IT was very slick. I emailed them and they told if they had I needed and then I sent the money and they sent them. Once they sent a list on an IOU so that was nice. Anyway, I think they have lots of cemetery records, maybe all of them. It was very nice to see who was buried in the same cemtery and see if any of them might be relatives I haven's known about. With all of the talk of Warren and Starbrick, I just wanted to throw out that I recently took a trip into Starbrick, where my grandfather was born and took a photo of the community church there. If anyone would like a scan of the church for their records, let me know and I'll send it privately by email. I also have the Ludlow Lutheran Church too. Alison, what are the years covered by the above volumes? I am looking for the marriage of John T. Newell and Vinnie Knapp in the 1900s to 1910s. Could they be in there? Susanne Hieber
I've been to the Court House and the Warren Historical Society several times. I live in North East, PA about 60 miles away. My father grew up in Warren and when I was young I always enjoyed out family trips to Warren to visit my grandparents and relatives in Warren. I love Warren! Anyway, everyone in Warren at the Court House and the Historical Society has always been very polite and helpful to me. I really enjoy going to the historical society. I am researching the following families in and about Warren: Duckett, Loucks, Turner, Edwards, Brown, Watt I'll be making a trip to Warren soon. Don Duckett, Jr.

Good Morning Jean and Others on the List: Now this is what I am talking about! Here I was speaking about what can and can't be done, had a name or two within the confines of my message, and you picked up on the RAWSON! FYI - I do not descend from this branch, only interested in the information for the Rawson Records. Boy am I interested in your revelations! Yes indeed Thompson Rawson did marry and to a lady who was in Chautauqua Co., NY. I can see that they probably wandered back and forth over the NY-PA stateline. Hi Again: I am going to try one last time here. BE SPECIFIC as possible in what you are asking for. If you can supply dates, names etc., do so. In fact when composing your query, look at it and ask yourself : "how would I go about trying to answer this query if it was from another person"? Generalities aren't going to get you very far. Usually the caretaker of the cemetery has a plot book which should tell you some facts such as date of death, in this case, St. Joseph's Cemetery would more than likely mean that the person was Catholic. Go to the Catholic church closest to the cemetery and ask for a lookup. Might send a couple of dollars and don't forget an SASE. If you get an negative answer, then your couple of dollars has been well spent! Cheaper than going there in person especially if you are living in California! :-) You could also ask about researchers in the area. who would be willing to do some hunting. Of course be prepared to pay, but again, the money is well spent if even nothing is found. Remember, a researcher is not a mind reader either! BE SPECFIC. You can also try a query on the list to ask about the various Catholic churches. You'd be surprised what you can find out by asking questions, but BE SPECIFIC. Remember "NO" is a good answer! One avenue then having been searched. BTW, I have been JUBALANTLY pleased with my resources located in and around "Hazeltine City"!!!!!
