    1. Brown Hill
    2. To the best of my knowledge, there is no Brown Hill in Warren Co. There is a community by that name in Crawford County, PA. near the Warren Co., border. For any of you who are interested in the Samuel Brown Family, I have a pretty complete report on the family. This family has been very well researched and old Samuel left alot of descendants. I would be happy to share what I have for those of you that are interested. Please let me know you tie into the family. Dennis R. Davis R8459@aol.com

    3. Hi, Kathy, Do you know who your very first BROWN ancestor was here in America? Was it Richard BROWNE by any chance? If so, I'd like to know what family lineage Samuel had from Richard. I know that Samuel was quite illustrious in Sugar Grove because he and Diantha came so early, for one thing. Is that why you took for granted that Brown Hill was named after him? I heard there was a BROWN who was involved in selling land to new settlers at the time, but I don't know if this was Samuel or not. Did your Samuel family live on Brown Hill? At any rate, there seem to be several BROWNs in the area by the 1830s. I have tax assessment pages going back to 1829. Names were alphabetized. The page of the Bs that I have for 1829 Brokenstraw lists two of my BROWNs (Cyrus and Cyrenus, Jr.) and Samuel, Jr. 1830 Brokenstraw lists three of mine (Cyrenus Sr, Cyrenus Jr, and Cyrus) and also Samuel, Sr. (1830 census for Brokenstraw lists only two of mine (Daniel B. and Cyrenus) 1832 Brokenstraw lists my Elijah...but also your Samuel and a Peter. 1833 Sugar Grove lists my Elijah and my Cyrus and also Zuse (?--might be a contraction), Nathan W., and Janet 1834 Sugar Grove lists Elijah, Cyrus, Nathan, Janet, and Samuel (he had a cow worth $10 and a tavern worth $50) 1840 Sugar Grove lists James, Janet, Nathaniel, Solomon, and my Cyrenus. Additionally, I have a page of BROWNs from the Index to Deeds for Warren Co. who were grantees. In Brokenstraw or Sugar Grove those BROWNs listed are David (1814/1822), Jennet (1830), my Cyrenus (1841). So, you see, your Samuel and family were not the only BROWNs there in that era. 3. I have a rather extensive Anhantafel chart I did a while back on the (male) BROWN line from Samuel on back (not ALL of which has been proved but looks promising). You'll find it at: http://www.intrepid.net/genealogy/junghen/donnaAhnentxt.html Look for Number 80 Samuel Brown (with first wife Susanna ?Rouse?, his second wife was Diantha Foster). Then double 80 to 160 and you'll find his father, etc. Donna 80 Samuel Brown. Born 19 Dec 1779 in Cambridge, Washington Co, New York. Died 18 Sep 1864 in Chautauqua Co.NY, /Warren, Pennsylvania. Buried 1864 in Old Grand Vall., Eldred Twp., Warren, Pennsylvania. 81 Susanna Rouse. Born 7 Mar 1779. Died 27 May 1808 in Montgomery, New York. Buried in Montgomery, New York. > Hi > I have been doing a bit of searching and I think you are quite correct, >What can > you tell us about the Browns YOU have? 2. I'm looking for the place (NY) and date of birth (about 1812) and death (after 1880) for Adam BUSH. He bought land in Freehold (Warren Co.) in 1837 but doesn't appear in 1840-50 census. In 1850 he is listed in the Busti (Chautauqua Co.) census, then later in the 1860-70-80 Warren Co., PA censuses. He died sometime after 1880 and was buried in Bear Lake Cemetery; however, no date is listed in the cemetery records. No death certificate, obituary or will has been found. 1. Re: Stephen (?) BROWN + Ursula TEAL, m. ca. 1832
    2. Jane T.
    3. Dee,where did you find the info re Ursula TEAL's birth date and location? Sounds like it came from the book written by Celeste Pember Hazen about the PEMBER family. She wrote the TEAL children's births were in Halloway, when it really should have been Hallowell, Ontario. The TEALLs spelled their name TEALL, TEAL, and TEEL. In a civil document I also saw it spelled Thiel. To this day some of the family spell the name TEAL, others TEALL. A descendant has an anvil, I'm told, that belonged to Charles M. and "TEALL" is inscribed on it; so that branch of the family spells the name "TEALL." The John TEAL you found is a son of Charles M. and Clarissa (Pember) TEAL, brother to Ursula. Jane Teal likely was his widow (he d. ca 1845). I thought Charles M. TEAL was in Brokenstraw in 1830, Sugar Grove in 1840. I'd love for Stephen J. BROWN to be the Stephen I'm looking for, but you say that he was in the 1850 Busti census. As Ursula (Teal) BROWN had a new surname in 1850, I doubt this Stephen is the one I seek...if her husband's name really was Stephen...again, a Celeste Pember Hazen bit of info that even she was unsure about. Ursula's sister, Jane, married Elijah BROWN. We wonder if Stephen BROWN was of the same family, but we don't think so, unless Stephen (?)'s name was something else, like Cyrus (the only one of my BROWN brothers I know absolutely nothing about). As for the location of Brown Hill Road: my map shows that it runs roughly north and south, from Jackson Run Road south to Mathews Run Rd. at Youngs- ville. I'm so glad you found your Orrin that you've been hunting for!
