Hi, I am new to this list and have a question. Where are the county records (vital stats, deeds, probate, etc) for persons residing in Tionesta during the period 1855-1866 currently located? In Venango County or Forest County? I would appreciate if someone could help me out on this. Jim Turner
I will try to check tomorrow. There are cemetery listings in our CCHS. Will let you know what I find. Nance Crawford Co. What are the dates on John Carter? Is he the son of James Carter 1903-1997?

I am overwhelmed at the response I have received from all of you on trying to find out bits of info on John Carter of Crawford County. All I can say is, "thanks" beyond words. Like the amateur that I am, I didn't note any dates, etc. to help you with this search. This is what I have so far: John Carter was born ab. 1791 in Mass and married Chloe S. born ab 1798 in Mass. I think her maiden name is Barber. Anyway, their first son, Harvey John Carter was born in 1817 in Crawford County. They also had Eliza Roena who married Erastus Shumway, Elizabeth who married Joseph Verbeck and Joseph. I am not for sure of any other children. And, I am not for sure who Joseph married. I feel that John born ab 1791 was a "John, Jr" since I did find that there was also a John Carter on the 1830 Census for Crawford County, Venango Twp, who would probably be the father, but am not sure. But, the John, Jr. on the same census fits age brackets for all of my descendants. I was just wondering if anyone has a cemetery book of the area and could possible tell where John, Sr. was buried. On the 1830 census he was listed between the age of 70-80, as also was his wife. But, on the 1840 census there was no John Carter at all. I do know that John, Jr. had moved to Granville, Wisconsin, but I don't know what happened to John, Sr and his wife. I would think they were to old to move on so they probably stayed behind or maybe even died before John Jr moved on. I realize this is asking quite a lot of you guys, but it's kinda a stab in the dark if you know what I mean. Again, to say "thank you" seems so inappropriate from all the response I have gotten. Again, thanks. Becky Carter

Hello We have added more information to the cemetery lists, SHERMAN is now A-M surnames and did you know Abraham LINCOLN who died in 1863 was buried here? and Horace GREELEY Also there is Ynofk MAGRDCHIAN Really http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychauta/CEMETERY/Sherman.html CUTTING at French Creek, has been read by Robin DeShazer, she gave me permission to publish in archives of Chautauqua Co NY, nice work Robin. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychauta/CEMETERY/Cutting.html Also I have contacted everyone I can find, who has any info on French Creek main cemetery, it seems no records can be found that are older than 1942, so it will need to be read, there are a lot of very old stones there. Hi- I am looking for any BERKHEISERS and their relatives. Some other early names are Jacob and Catharine Berger, Michael and Dorothea Hoffman, Johannes and Susanna Beyer, and Johannes and Elizabeth Miller. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Gregory
Hi, I heard the same story from my brother. Years ago he worked on the roads around Busti area (Chautauqua Co.). He told me an elderly man named Rudy had told him the story. And pointed out to him where the cemetery use to be. I'm looking for the grave of Laban Pero and wife Polly. I know Laban died in Busti Feb. 1870. He willed his farm in Busti to his children Emery & William Pero and daughter Sarah Ann Killins. I've not yet found where the property was located. Or what became of Sarah or Emery. If anyone recognizes or runs across anything on this family I would very much appreciate hearing from you. Email: sammy@alaska.net Thank you, Cindy
Dee: Have you ever heard of a Bush cemetery on Pine Ridge Rd. in Busti, Chautauqua Co., NY? I am told it was turned over in the 1930s to the man next door (Fred Palmer) who "plowed down 12-15 grave stones." The stones were said to have ended up being used in a fireplace at a farm in Busti owned by someone named Green. Doug
Jay Priest has added to the Chautauqua GenWeb the following info MARK'S CORNERS Cemetery, French Creek, County Roads, 4 and 11 Chautauqua Co NY Contains several BEUSINK, BELDEN DUNNEWOLD MORGAN NECKERS NEWHOUSE and OTHERS. It's a small cemetery. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychauta/CEMETERY/Markscor.html also There are 2 lists for Sherman, 1998- contains FREEMAN family and 1999 is A-G more added daily. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychauta/CEMETERY/Sherman.html Sherman Cemetery, the main one on Route 430 It's very large and many pages of typing, I have submitted ABBEY through GUMBY so far .Dates are for BURIALS , ages given when known. All taken from town records. I have not added the lot numbers but do have them, the typing would be overwhelming, (and extremely boring) and I will look up any you may need.. Or use the search engine for surnames. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychauta/Search.html Many of these families have ties to PA, and many other countries also; Dee
If it Swedish you want to learn just to translate the records, go to your local LDS Mormon Church and they have translation pages that are excellent for this translation. You were not specific as to what you were after but have done a lot of record translation with their sheets in Italian, German and French and they are great. Searching for: Fehlman, Fehlmann, Fahlman, Gosser, Gutzler, Pastor, Erb, Schuler in Sundhausen and Muttersholz, Alsace, France. Mary anderson@penn.com

Thanks Doug for providing the site containing info about Brown Hill School. My husband's parents and their siblings are listed. I am still hoping someone will scan the front of the 1915 booklet and send to me. It was the last year my husband's father went to school. Hello all - Does anyone know anyone who would help me learn Swedish? I live in Erie and often go to Warren on the weekends. This person doesn't have to be a teacher - just someone who will talk to me and help me get the pronunciation. I will pay. I'm researching the SWANSON and SANDQUIST families of Southwest Twp., Warren Co. I would love to communicate with anyone who is also researching these families. Also, does anyone have any suggestions about researching in Sweden? Thanks a million (Tack sa mycket) Kathy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Thousands of Stores. Dee: I'm not sure if my e-mail arrived or not, so I'll post my reply here. 1) Thanks for the information on the Bush names in Warren and Chautauqua counties. I really appreciate your efforts. Was the 1840 PA listing for Westmoreland County? Do you know the ages and genders of the individuals? 2) Unfortunately, I don't have the Bear Lake Cemetery records in my possession. The information I have came from Roy Perkins (great-grandson of Rueben Carr, founder of Bear Lake cemetery), who had the records in 1980. I don't know where they are now. The Fenton Historical Society in Jamestown and the Warren County Historical Society both have card files containing some or all of the information. I'm not sure if it is based on the original records or are transcriptions of headstones in the cemetery. Wish I could provide more information. Mr. Perkins would be about 84 now, if still living. A Mrs. Hazel Berkey of the Warren Post Office put me in touch with him, but that was nearly twenty years ago. Doug
Although I'm not researching the Brown name, I found the following information which may be of interest to some Brown researchers: The site contains information on the Brown Hill Public School. It contains the names of Alton, Helen, and Junius Brown who attended the school 1915-16. ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/pa/warren/education/brownhill01.txt Doug
