Hi! My 98 year old ggg grandmother is listed on the 1860 Connellsville census at the home of her son-in-law Henry WHITE. She is listed as "Dolly JILES". Henry WHITE and Elizabeth GILES are my gg grandparents. When I started looking into the GILES family, I began with "Biographical and Portrait CYCLOPEDIA of Fayette County Pennsylvania". This publication states that Samuel Giles "came to Fayette County in 1814 and married Dorotha Day". For most of the last decade I have been looking for information on Dorotha "Dolly" Day who was born around 1762. I only knew that Elizabeth GILES WHITE, born < 1801> in Virginia and Thomas GILES, born <1807> in Pennsylvania were children of my "Dolly JILES". Thomas GILES appeared adjacent to Henry WHITE on the 1840 census. He operated a hotel in Dunbar later in the century and I believe that Giles House in Dunbar was named after him. Tom and Rebecca Giles had 16 children. Mike Livieri, gggg grandson of "Dolly Jiles". has recently discovered the following information on "Dolly Jiles" in the Las Vegas Nevada library: Matilda GILES ECCLES, daughter of Thomas GILES and granddaughter of "Dolly JILES" celebrated her 99th birthday in 1937. The newspaper story describing this event said that her grandmother, Dorothy FIELDS GILES, came from England and lived to be 103 near Gillmore Mills. Mike also found the marriage of Samuel Silvester GILES to Dorothy PHIELDS. This item says that Dorothy PHIELDS was born in Pennsylvania. Tentatively, I am adopting Dorothy FIELDS GILES as my ggg grandmother's actual name. I know that Dorothy FIELDS GILES was living with her husband Samuel on the 1840 census. I know that Dorothy FIELDS GILES was living with her daughter Elisabeth and son-in-law Henry WHITE on the 1860 census. I have no knowledge of where she was on the 1850 census. Henry WHITE bought land in McHenry county, Illinois in 1843. He was not happy and moved back to Fayette county before the 1850 census. His mother-in-law was not with him in 1850. A Samuel GILES bought land close to Henry WHITE in McHenry county, Illinois in 1845. I was elated until I read that this Samuel GILES had probably come from Winthrop, Mass. Mike Livieri found that Thomas GILES and his brother Samuel GILES migrated with their families to Van Buren county Iowa. Although they were not in Fayette County for the 1850 census Thomas had returned to Fayette County for the 1860 census; Samuel stayed in Iowa. If anyone has any information or questions concerning Dorothy FIELDS GILES I would appreciate hearing from them, Frank McGrath
