It is possible that the enumerator was given a place name he did not understand. Sometimes it seems as if an enumerator was making some assumptions, recording what he/she thought they knew or heard rather than asking for clarifications. Or, perhaps in 1930 it was more politically or socially "correct" to say you were from Austria and that you had spoken Russian in your homeland. There was another household nearby where the parents were recorded as Polish and their native language as Slovak. Do you have any ideas on other spelling variations which might have been used.?
