George A. HACKNEY, Jr., 91, of Uniontown, Pa., died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at home with his family at his side. He was born in Uniontown, the son of the late George A. HACKNEY, Sr., and Josephine ELLIS Hackney. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice McMURROUGH Hackney; a sister, Velma Oglevee and husband, William; three brothers, Clark HACKNEY and wife, Alfaretta "Toots", Joseph Newton HACKNEY and Earle HACKNEY; and several nieces and nephews. He was a member of Central Christian Church for 75 years, a Life Deacon and a member of the Fogg Cochran Sunday School Class. George graduated from Uniontown High School, Class of 1932. He served in World War II as a T4 Dental Technician in the 69th General Hospital in China and Burma, India. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Service Medal with one Bronze Star, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. George worked at Hagan Dairy as a Production Manager. He also worked with the YMCA Phalanx project clearing land and building a youth camp near Summerfield Beach, and he also helped in another project cleaning and painting the Jumonville Training Center before it was turned over to the Methodist Church. He is survived by his children, Pat HACKNEY, of Uniontown, Richard A. HACKNEY and wife, Joanne, of Venice, Fla., J,ames A. HACKNEY, of Baden, Pa., Susan Mongell and husband, Lewis, of Uniontown, Barbara Carrara, of Grove City, Pa., William G. HACKNEY and wife, Debra of Manitowoc, Wisc., and Julia HACKNEY and fiancee, Rob Farquhar, of Fayette City, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Johanna, Katharine, Tim and Ted MONGELL, Amanda HACKNEY, Erin and Casey Carrara and Jason and Benjamin Santore; and a sister-in-law, Gaynell Hackney of Kent, Ohio.
