J. Joseph NEUBAUER, 86, of Fifth Street, Moundsville, W.Va., died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, in Shadyside Care Center, Pittsburgh, Pa. He was born Oct. 26, 1917, in Secaucus, N.J., the son of the late John and Helen Domisiewicz NEUBAUER. He was the former president and treasurer of Neubauer's Flowers Inc., which was founded by his parents in 1921. Joe has been in the flower business since graduating from Moundsville High School in 1935, except for the four years he spent in the Air Force during World War II. He was the last surviving second-generation brother involved in the family business. Under his leadership, the company expanded from one location in Cameron, W.Va., to three additional locations in Moundsville, Waynesburg, Pa., and Uniontown, Pa., which opened in March, 1982. He loved Moundsville and was active in community work all his life. He is Past President of the Moundsville Lions Club, Past President of the Moundsville Chamber of Commerce, Past Exalted Ruler of B.P.O.E. No. 282 Moundsville, member of Earl Frances Post No. 3 American Legion, President of Riverview Cemetery Association, Past President of Marshall County Easter Seal Society, Past President of WV Floral Association, and Past National Director of Florist Transworld Delivery Association (FTD); where in 1982, he was invited to decorate for Christmas at the White House. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy GAMBLE Neubauer, in 1998; three brothers, Frank, Robert and Richard; and two sisters, Helen Kretzner and Mary Salsbury. Survivors include his daughter, Jane Ellen NEUBAUER, of Seattle, Wash.; his son, Philip J. and daughter-in-law, Karen NEUBAUER, of Moundsville; a sister, Terri Gaetz, of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews including Steve NEUBAUER and wife, Roberta, and their sons, Joseph and Robert, of Uniontown, Pa. After the sudden death of Steve's father, Richard, in 1982, Joe served as a mentor to Steve. Family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday, Jan. 23, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the GRISELL FUNERAL HOME, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville, W.Va.
