MARGARET BOWDEN, 327 Shelton Ave., Brownsville and the late BLYTHE (BUGS) BOWDEN and MR. and MRS. FRANK H. BAXTER, 322 Old National Pike, Brownsville. Her mother is the former CYNTHIA BAXTER. BARANTOVICH, MRS. MARTHA, 60, of 427 Pearl St. Brownsville, died Sept. 19, 1976 in her home. She was a teacher in the Redstone Twp. Schools and Brownsville area for the past 40 years and had been a guidance counselor at the Brownsville Area Senior High School. She was born Nov. 15, 1915 in New Salem, a daughter of the late JOSEPH and ROSE LaPRESTA. She was a member of St. Peter's R.C. Church, Brownsville and the Catholic Daughters of America Court, Brownsville 1141. She was a member of PSEA, the Brownsville Teachers Assn. and the Brownsville Business and Professional Women's Club. Survivors include her husband, ALEX, principal at Brownsville Senior High School, a son, JOSEPH, three sisters, MRS. LAURA LaTORRE, MRS. SALLY SMART, and MRS. ROSE ORLANDO, two brothers, FRANK and SANTA LaPRESTA. Burial in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, under the direction of the Andrew J. Skirpan Funeral Home. Sept. 15, 1976, MR. and MRS. SAMUEL F. CRUMRINE, Ridge Road, Brownsville, are observing their 57th wedding anniversary today. The bride of 57 years is the former MARGARET STUART, daughter of the late MR. and MRS. HOMER STUART of Brownsville. MR. CRUMRINE is the son of the late MR. and MRS. CHARLES CRUMRINE of Zollarsville. The couple was married Sept. 15, 1919 in the Methodist Parsonage in Cumberland, MD.     3. WHETZEL, MRS. BLANCHE L., 94, Adah, a resident of Brownsville since 1910, died Sept. 24, 1975, in the Golden Age Nursing Home in Brownsville. She was born July 14, 1882 in Tippecanoe. Survivors include five sons, AVERILL, KENNETH, RALPH, DONALD, and LeROY; four daughters, MRS. MILDRED DAVIS, MRS. RUTH WHEELER, MRS. THELMA TAYLOR, MRS. LOUELLA BERISH; and a sister, MRS. RALPH RICHARDS. Burial in Bridgeport Cemetery under the direction of the J.W. Kisinger Funeral Home. WILLIAMS, MRS. VIRGINIA M., 58, 5 Tower Court, Elgin, IL died Sept. 18, 1976 in her home. She was born July 18, 1918 in Pennsylvania, a daugther of the late MR. and MRS. CHARLES SNYDER and had lived in Elgin for the past 21 years. She was employed by the Elgin Warehouse. Survivors include her husband, LAWRENCE, a daughter, MRS. RICHARD VAUGHAN; a brother, CHARLES and a sister, MRS. WILLIAM DORR, of Brownsville. Funeral services were held in Elgin with burial in Lake Street Memorial Park Cemetery. EXTROM, MARY MARGARET, 62, of 8 Morris Turnpike, Randolph Twp, N.J. formerly of Brownsville died at her home, Sept. 29, 1976. She was born Feb. 14, 1914, the daughter of the late ALBERT J. and MARY KATHERINE O'BRIEN TAYLOR. She was a resident of New Jersey for approximately 30 years and was a retired school teacher of the Rockaway School District. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, California. Survivors include her husband, JOHN E., a son, JOHN E. JR., two daughters, MRS. M. MARGARET SMITH and MRS. ROBIN G. FICHTER. She was preceded in death by a brother, EDGAR TAYLOR in 1970. Burial in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, under the direction of the Homer L. Crawford Funeral Home, Brownsville. "Looking Back Column" Sept. 25, 1936, "Brownsville Lock 5 yesterday boasted an all-time locking record with 30 lockings through the river chamber and 30 through the land chamber. Lockmaster C.W. Keibler explained the all-time high was due to the heavy fog which halted navigation for three or four hours the day before." Sept. 25, 1936, Prices at the Clover Farm Stores, leg of lamb, 29 cents a pound, rib roast of beef, 21 cents a pound, a ring of liver pudding, 2 pounds 25 cents, Tokay grapes, 2 pounds for 15 cents. Thirty years ago, Sept. 25, 1946, Brownsville High School fullback PETE WIDMER is leading the Big Scoring with four touchdowns and two extra points for twenty six points followed by "BUNNY" JOHNS with three touchdowns and two extra points. Twenty years ago, Sept. 25, 1956, Lincoln Baking Co., West Brownsville has an ad in today's issue of the Brownsville Telegraph as follows: "Our platform--agreeable by both parties: To serve Lincoln's Town Krier bread every day." MAGLIETTA, JOSEPH, 66, an area watchmaker for 50 years, died Sept 24, 1976 in Brownsville General Hospital. He resided at 312 Church St. Brownsville. He was born Aug. 5, 1919 in Washington, PA, a son of the late JOSEPH and CARMELLA MAGLIETTA. He was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Brownsville. Survivors include his wife, MRS. CATHERINE WATT MAGLIETTA; six children, HERBERT J., CARL, THOMAS, MRS. MARZHA FIELDER, DONALD, and RONALD. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, MARCO and two sisters, AGATHINA FALVO and PAULINE KARBLEY. She was born Aug. 19, 1903 in Outcrop, the daughter of the late ANDREW and JULIA OBERLEY DUDZAK. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Brownsville and a life member of the Pioneers of America and a member of the National Trails Council of the Bell Telephone Co. Survivors include three sisters and a brother, MRS. GENEVIEVE FERGUSON, MRS. KATHRYN DICKINSON and MARION DUDZAK MILLER; and JOSEPH DUDZAK. Burial in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, PA. under the direction of the Andrew J. Skirpan Funeral Home, Brownsville. BAIRD, MRS. MARIE E., 59, of 319 Union St., California, PA. died in Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born in Brownsville, March 14, 1917, and educated in the Brownsvile Area schools. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, the Eastern Star, and the Mothers Club of California. She was preceded in death by her husband, JACK, in July of 1974. Survivors include one son, KENNETH; two brothers, CHARLES and WARREN LANE; three sisters, MRS. ISABELLE YOHE, MRS. CHARLOTTE TENTLEER, and ALICE STAIB. HOLDEN, LILY ALDEN APEIR, 81, wife of DR. PAUL P. HOLDEN, of 530 Walnut St., Waynesburg, died Oct. 15, 1976, in Greene County Memorial Hospital. She was a daughter of the late ALDEN JAMES ansd SARAH JAME WILLIAMS SPEIR, born, April 27, 1895 in Port Royal, Westmoreland County. Since DR. HOLDEN retired from the ministry, the couple have resided in Waynesburg. She was a member of the First Methodist Church, the Worthwhile Sunday School Bible Class, the WSCS, all of Waynesburg. Surviving in addition to her husband, whom she married Oct. 19, 1921, is a sister, MRS. ERNESTINE RUCKER. A son, CHARLES ALDEN HOLDEN, died Christmas Eve, 1930. Two brothers, JAY PAUL SPEIR and ERNEST SPEIR are also deceased.     3. Friday, Oct. 8, 1976 was the 62nd anniversary of the opening of the Inter-County Bridge. The structure was built jointly by Fayette and Washington Counties. Among those who paraded across the free bridge was ROBERT DeLANEY, 515 Market St., Northside. He was 13 years old and was among the students from the Front St. Elementary School to march. Among the first persons to go across the bridge after the opening ceremonies was GLENN HUGHES, 85, of Beallsville, formerly of Brownsville. He was a taxi driver for the White Line Taxi Co. and he said it took him two hours to come from the West Side to the Taxi station in Brownsville. He was driving a Model T Ford; and because there were so many people on the bridge it was difficult to drive. Oct. 1976. MR. and MRS. ROBERT F. HOWES, Fredericktown R.D. 1 celebrated their 35th anniversary at their home with a party given by their children. Oct. 2, 1976, DANNY MURTAUGH, 59, veteran manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates announced his retirement plans for the fourth and final time. He was a legislator in the 50th district from 1968 until just after assuming the clerk of courts post. Born June 16, 1915 in Fairchane, he was a lifelong resident of Georges Twp. He was the son of the late ALBERT and BESSIE MYERS DAVIS. Educated in Georges Twp. schools, he was graduated from the high school in 1932. He was employed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co for ten years before serving in WWII with the U.S. Army. Following the war, he was involved with managing the former Cohen Furniture Store in Brownsville. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Uniontown. Survivors include his wife, FRANCES HUDOCK DAVIS, a daughter, MRS. MARLENE JURIGA, a son, DONALD LIONELL DAVIS; these brothers and sisters, MELBOURNE DAVIS, CLARENCE DAVIS, MRS. LILLIAN FIRESTONE, RUSSELL DAVIS, MRS EDNA KNOX, and MRS. HELEN CUNNINGHAM Burial in Mountian View Memorial Park under the direction of the James W. Goldsboro Funeral Home, Fairchance. DAVIS, MRS. FRANCES HUDOCK, 58, died Nov. 11, 1976, in Uniontown Hospital. She was the widow of DONALD M. DAVIS, 61, who died Oct. 23, while serving his first year as Fayette County Clerk of Courts. Survivors include a son, DONALD LIONELL DAVIS, a daughter, MRS. JOSEPH (MARLENE) JURIGA; a brother, JOHN HUDOCK, two sisters, MRS. ANDREW MOLNAR, and MRS. GEORGE ONDRAKO. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Uniontown. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, FRANK HUDOCK, in March 1973. BROWNSVILLE'S SOUTH SIDE VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY honored nine members for 20 years service or more.
