Hello to all, I am brand new to this list. I was a long time resident of SW Pa in Fayette County and move to the Ohio are in the early 50's. I searching information regarding my grandfather and grandmather, John Hrusovsky and Catherine (Katrina Mikusek). They lived in the Smithfield area in the late 30's. Catherine died in Smithfield in Dec 38 and shortly after John moved to Leckrone and did some custodial work for St Mary's Catholic Church in Leckrone. That is about the extent to the information I have and desire additional information/leads. Thank you in advance. Lawrence Hrusovsky

Hi, Lawrence, Welcome to the Fayette list! Smithfield area is where I live now, having retired here. My family moved from Uniontown when I was three but once the genealogy bug grabbed ahold, I moved back to Fayette from CA! Have checked four local funeral home books and find no Hrusovskys. If St. Mary's was their church then perhaps they used a Funeral Home in Masontown. There may be a listing for the cem. associated with St. Mary's in the PA Room of the Uniontown Library. You might write to them. And, they do have an obit. index which may cover 1938 by now. Volunteers read the old microfilmed newspapers, page by page, searching for obits which were not always in the same places. The information on what they charge and their address should be on their web site: http://www.uniontownlib.org/pages/pennsylvania.htm Did a quick check on the 1930 census and found in German Twp., which isn't too far from Smithfield, in #51-51 a Stephen 26 and Mary 23 Hrusovski with Ethel 2 and Betty 1. Stephen was 22 when they were first married and Mary, 19. Stephen was born in Austria, as were his parents, and Mary was born in PA and her parents were born in Austria. Stephen's native language was Russian. And, next to them in #52-52 were: John 29 and Anna 28 Hrusoviski with Helen 7, Ambrose 6, and Edward 3. John was 20 and Anna 19 when they were first married. John was born in Austria as were his parents; Anna was born in PA and her parents were born in Austria. John's native language was Russian. Both Stephen and John were coal miners. Could this John and Anna have been your John and Catherine/Katrina? Hope this helps a little. Best regards, Jane
Jane, Yes to most of your findings and I'm confused about others. John and Catherine Hrusovsky(i) to best of my knowledge were born in Jabloncia, Slovakia. Stephen was his son and Mary the wife with Ethel and Betty as their first children. They were slovak and I assume born also in Slovakia and not in Austria. Steven's native language was always slovak. John was another son and married to Anna with Helen, Ambrose, and Edward as children.Stephen and John were coal miners and their father John I assume was a farmer?? The Austria connection is a puzzlement to me as well as the Russian language.
