Patricia Wilson, Secretary HISTORICAL SOCIETY SCHEDULES POTTERY PROGRAM California, PA -- Phil Schaltenbrand, owner of Westerwald Pottery, Scenery Hill, PA, is the featured speaker at the California Area Historical Society, on Wednesday, April 19. The topic is "Stoneware Pottery in Southwestern Pennsylvania." Schaltenbrand, emeritus professor, California University of Pennsylvania, will review and display some of the stoneware pottery made in the region. He taught ceramics and art history at the University for 25 years and is the publisher of three books on potters and the stoneware industry. His latest publication Big Ware Turners will be available at the program meeting. Schaltenbrand is a master potter himself, and as owner of Westerwald Pottery, has produced and shipped quality custom stoneware thoughout the world. The program, at the Gallagher House, 429 Wood Street, California Borough, begins at 7:30 p.m., immediately following a short business meeting at 7:00. Refreshments will be served.
