William F. WHITBY Jr., 78, of State College, Pa., died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, in Centre Community Hospital. He was born April 18, 1923, in Uniontown, Pa., the son of the late William F. and Frances C. McMahan Whitby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William F. III on Sept. 29, 1998. On Ja. 24, 1950, he married Christina C. Ellis, who survives. Also, surviving are three sons, Ellis C. of Alexandria, Va., Jeffrey C. of Little Rock, Ark., and David E. of Tyrone; six grandchildren, Abgail of Little Rock, Ark., Michael and Katherine of Tyrone, Andrew and Emily of Alexandria, Va., and Jonathan of Scottsdale, Ariz. He received his bachelor's degree from Penn State, and a master's degree from Georgia Tech. He was an architect for Architects and Engineers Collaborative of State College. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects, Acacia Fraternity, a past member of the State College Planning Commission and Design and Review Board. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army. Visitation and services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown. Not related to me.
