Syd SOLOMON, 86, of Sarasota, Fla., born in Uniontown, Pa., died Jan. 28, 2004. He was an abstract artist best known for large colorful canvases in the traditions of 19th Century Romantic landscape painting. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1935 to 1938, and studied briefly at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1945. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Annie; a daughter, Michele Young, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a son, Michael, of Easthampton, N.Y.; a brother, Robert, of Gainesville, Fla.; and three grandsons.
