    1. Sarah (Rumble) Boone Whipkey

    3. I recently received a copy of the The obituary below, which is for my g-g-g-grandmother. She was born Sarah Rumble, probably in Greene County, and was married first to William Boone. William was much older than Sarah (about 25 years), and left her a widow with a large family to raise on her own. Sometime probably after 1870, Sarah remarried to a Whipkey (possibly Will or William). I have been told that Sarah left Mr. Whipkey and, whether they were actually divorced or not, she reverted to using the Boone surname. Sarah also alternated between living in Fayette and Greene Counties. My comments / questions are listed below the obituary. ========== Mrs. Sarah Whipkey Mrs. Sarah Whipkey, (nee) Boone, died Friday, March 15, 1907, at her home at Broad Ford, Pa., aged 83 years. For many years she resided here where she had a host of friends. For 65 years she was a member of the Greensboro M.E. church and was always faithful to her church. During all kinds of weather she would be found at the services. She has crossed the silent river from which no traveler ever returns, but she is in the city where all is grandeur. She leaves several children, Joseph Boone, of Greensboro; George Boone, of Pittsburgh, and Harry Boone, of Broad Ford. The Waynesburg Republican, March 28, 1907 ========== I believe her first husband, William Boone, probably resided with others prior to his marriage to Sarah as 1850 is the first time I find him listed in the census. I find William Boone and Sarah as follows: 1850 - Monongahela Twp, Greene County: William age 49, Sarah age 24 and their first two children, Catherine age 2 and William age 7 months. 1860 - Monongahela Twp, Greene County: William age 61, Sarah age 35 and children Catherine age 13, Sarah age 9, Joseph age 5 and Harrison age 2. (additional children are William, who died between 1850 and 1860 and a daughter Margaret born and died between 1850 and 1860) By 1870, William has died and I find Sarah in Monongahela Twp, Greene County: Sarah age 42 and children: Minerva age 18, Joseph age 15, Harrison age 12, George age 10 and Thomas age 6 months. ***Minerva age 18 is the same child previously listed as Sarah - full name is Sarah Minerva (additional children are Catherine who has married, William who was born in 1849 and died before 1860, Margaret who was born and died between 1850 and 1860, and Benjamin who was born and died between 1860-1870) In 1880, the only possibility I can find is a Sarah Boon in Dunbar Twp, Fayette County listed as a widow age 49, a servant in the home of Wm. A Jones. This is possible her as immediately next door to Wm. is Harrison Boon (Sarah's son) and his wife. And finally in 1900, I find her back in Greene County in Greensboro Borough, listed as Sarah Boone, a janitress, age 72. This lists her as being born in April 1828, she is listed as a widow and the mother of 9 children, 4 living. Obviously, I have an age discrepancy. In 1900 according to the census she was born in April 1828 and is 72 years old, which matches. In 1907 when she died she is listed in her obituary as age 83. I have a death certificate on order to confirm age and date of birth. My question is - I am looking for any record of a Whipkey in either Fayette or Greene County that married a Sarah Rumble or Boone. Sarah's son, Harrison Boone, married a Hulda Ann Whipkey - I don't know who her parents were, but perhaps her father married Sarah as a second wife? I have fairly complete information on the descendants of the Boone family from William and Sarah to the present time that I am more than willing to share with anyone connected. Some of the other related names from Fayette and Greene Counties are: Anderson, Bansberg, Beatty, Cannon, Doty, Eberhart, Fullem, Garlick, Herrington, Longenderfer, Morris, Morrison, Mundell, Murray, Rimel, Rittenour, Rodeheaver, Shallenberger, Sullenberger, Wydick; many others.
