No relationship - do not know Anna's maiden name. But not sure if this is a connection to your "4th child" missing. In 1900, Ohio, Belmont Co, 5-wd Bellaire I found this ELLEARD, James C, head, Feb 1881, 19, married, b. PA, CAN, PA, engineer, rents house Stella M, wife, May 1880, 20 0 children, b. OH, OH, OH George M, Father, Sept 1948, 51, married, immigrated 1869, b. CAN, IRE, IRE, Engineer This was enumerated on 1 JUN, 1900. I noticed the ELLARD, Geo M in 1900 PA, New Haven was enumerated on th 11th of June. (I've heard of many being counted twice in a census) The only thing that don't match are the months of birthday. Just a thought. These names are inter-twined by marriage, etc. The one person I am despartely looking for is DOWLING, I know there were Dowlings living in Robinson but have no idea if its mine. Here is what I have: DOWLING husband PARKS, Sarah - wife DOWLING/PHILLIPS, Anna Eliza born 03May 1846 West Virginia. Died 07 Nov 1917 in Carnegie, while living with step-daughter and family Maude PHILLIPS/HEBERLE. Anna Eliza DOWLING married Elijah PHILLIPS sometime after 1873 when his first wife Ann KELLER died. I believe Maude was her(Ann's) last child before she died. On Maudes marriage certificate she is listed as being born in Washington Co. Pa 19 Aug 1872. Frank C. HEBERLE was born 25 May 1869 in Wisconsin. Frank and Maude were married 12 Sept 1894. Anna Eliza DOWLING was living with Alex and Ellenor MORROW on the 1860 Census North Fayette, Allegheny, Pennsylvania. Their birthplace was listed as Virginia. So I feel that they were friends or somehow related to the DOWLINGS. If anyone is a descendent of any of these families and has information on DOWLING especially, I would really appreciate hearing from you. Alice California
Hi! I've written from time to time with various questions. I've never been to Fayette County. I was in Pittsburgh for one day in 1967. That's the closest I've come. I'll go through the history of my family in Fayette County. I'll be very happy to receive any answers to my questions or comments where I might have forgotten to ask a question. ENGLISH Rose ENGLISH, my maternal grandmother, was living with my family most of the time between 1945 and her death in 1984. She was born in Tyrone on July 11, 1878. Her parents were James ENGLISH and Sarah .(Sadie), WHITE ENGLISH. James and Sarah ENGLISH are on the 1880 census in Upper Tyrone. James is a 36 year old carpenter and Sarah is a 35 year old housewife. With them are their children: Maurice xx, Hugh 13. Estella 11, Hellan 9, James 4, and Rose 1. They would have three more children, Harry, Joseph and Robert. James ENGLISH was born in Ireland, (1844?). Sarah WHITE was born in Illinois. I have no record of their marriage. In the 1860s James ENGLISH married Sarah WHITE and his brother, Hugh ENGLISH, married Sarah's sister, Minerva, (Minnie), WHITE. Apparently James ENGLISH came to the United States from Ireland with his Mother Mary ENGLISH, his brother Hugh ENGLISH and his sister Mary ENGLISH. I have no record of where they lived in Ireland nor of James' father. Thirty-eight year old laundress(?) Mary English appears on the 1860 census for the Frostberg district of Allegheny County Maryland with her son James (16), her son Hugh (15), her daughter Mary (11), her son Maurice (9), her son Joseph (6), and a female daughter (3), The three youngest children were all born in Maryland. The 1870 census for the Frostberg district of Allegheny County Maryland finds that Mary ENGLISH is keeping house. 46 year old carpenter James ENGLISH is head of household. (Where did this James ENGLISH come from.) Daughter Mary has married 28 year old John GROVES. 2 1/2 year old John GROVES is also part of the household. Also present in the household is 36 year old Kate ENGLISH, (Mary's sister?). Completing the household are Mary's children: Joseph ENGLISH 15, Kate ENGLISH 13, and John ENGLISH 3. In 1870 Mary's son James ENGLISH (26) was a carpenter in Connellsville. Appearing with him on the census were wife Sarah (25), son Maurice (3) and son Hugh (1). Maurice ENGLISH, his 19 year old brother is an apprentice carpenter and a member of the household. I did not find Hugh and Minerva ENGLISH on the 1870 census. However judging by the birth places of their children Hugh and Minerva were in Pennsylvania in 1866; they were in Maryland in 1869 and 1871; and they were in Pennsylvania in 1874. In 1880 Mary ENGLISH was living at home in Upper Tyrone with blacksmith son Joseph ENGLISH as head of family. Mary and Joseph are both listed as widowed. Joseph's 2 year old daughter Kate is present in household. Mary GROVES, listed as married, is keeping house. John ENGLISH, Mary's 13 year old son, is the last ENGLISH in the household. The children of John and Mary GROVES present in the household are James (10), Walter (7), George (5), and Rebecca (4). There is no listing for John GROVES, neither Mary's husband nor her son who would be 12 1/2. As mentioned above, James and Sarah ENGLISH were living in Upper Tyrone in 1880 Hugh ENGLISH was a 36 year old machinist on the 1880 census. He and Minerva were living in South Pittsburg, Marion Tennessee. Their son, 14 year old Harry English is listed as a draftsman. There other children were 11 year old Edith. 9 year old James, and 6 year old Elizabeth. I believe I found Kate ENGLISH in Upper Tyrone on the 1880 census. Kate ENGLISH, Mary's second daughter was 23 and married to Patrick TULLY, a coke drawer. She has two daughters, Ellen (3), and Bertha (1). There are no censuses for 1890. In 1887 and 1888 Hugh ENGLISH appeared on the Birmingham. Alabama street lists as a manufacturer of furnaces. Hugh ENGLISH died on December 9, 1888. Minnie ENGLISH, widow of Hugh, makes her last appearance on the Birmingham street lists in 1891. Elizabeth ENGLISH, Minnie's younger daughter had married Dr. ROSS and moved to Monrovia KY. Minny died on February 7, 1919. She and both her daughters are buried in Monrovia< KY. Mary ENGLISH is living with Joseph ENGLISH, a blacksmith, on the 1898 Birmingham street lists. After Mary's death on January 13, 1900, she was put in the same plot with Hugh ENGLISH at the Oak Hill Memorial Cemetery in Birmingham. James and Sarah ENGLISH moved their family from Upper Tyrone to Pittsburgh between 1880 and 1883. Pittsburgh street lists include James ENGLISH as a carpenter from 1883 through 1890. James ENGLISH does not appear on the Street lists after 1890. Sarah ENGLISH is listed as a widow on the 1893 Pittsburgh Street List. On August 28, 1883, thirteen year old James ENGLISH JR. died after being kicked by a horse. The following day James bought a cemetery plot in Pittsburgh. In addition to James ENGLISH JR. buried in the plot are James' children Harry, (1888-1890), and Estella, (1871-1921). Sarah WHITE ENGLISH, (1848-1929), is the fourth and last occupant of the plot. What happened to James ENGLISH? My great grandmother, Sarah WHITE ENGLISH, died on October 17.1929. I originally planned one long memo but this is too long as it is. In the future I will write another memo on the genealogy of Sarah WHITE. I would be very happy to receive any comments or questions. I would also like to hear from descendants of my great grandaunts, Mary ENGLISH GROVES and Kate ENGLISH TULLY. Frank McGrath

Is anyone researching the Boden Family of Fayette Co. I resently found Elizabeth Boden b 1799 in New Jersey living there with her children, Nathaniel b abt 1816, John b abt 1818, DAvid b abt 1820 and Parthenia or Patheney b abt 1821. Parthenia is probably my great great grandmother, the mother of Lewis Morris Willgues. I found him after many years of searching, all I had was a marriage date from Wellsburg, WV of 1858, but after going and geting a copy of the license the date was actually 1868, he had married Mary Mitchell of Washington CO, PA. But the paper did list his parents, William and Parthenia Willgues, I lost him again until 1880 when he was in Wheeling WV married to Harriett Gover with children, the he disappeared agian. But turned up in 1900 in Carnegie, PA married to my great grandmother, Ellen Pascoe, but again Harriet (wife #2) was still alive in East Liverpool, Ohio. And a Mary (wife #1) Willgues was in Ohio. AGAIN Louis is gone. After searching the web for WILLGUES I find a letter written (dated 1905)from Belle Vernon, PA GAR Post to a Carnegie GAR Post about a name change for Louis. He had enlisted in teh Civil War under the name of Lewis Boden in Ohio, but fought with Company G of the 22nd Cavalry Pennsylvania Volunteers. I still have not found where this man is buried even though I lived in the same town as where this man probably died about 1905, and have done extensive research of the Carnegie newspapers of that time. I would like to exchange Boden information with anyone interested in the family. I believe they moved to Ohio in the late 1850's Thank you Terry Terry Hutchison Cook
