Francis Asbury was an early Methodist circuit rider in our regions. The word Asbury is found often in Methodist names for buildings and such. In my search I have found Francis A. or just F.A. . When in Uniontown I saw a Methodist Church called Asbury . I doubt any connection but until I found him as my G-Grandfathers parent had not heard that name.In W.V.. I found his name as Francis Asbury . hopefully someday I can obtain a copy of the funeral card. Thank You and God Bless. When I get back to the Lilley line I will try researching him as just Asbury and might turn up something. -- No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. SOMERSET VITAL RECORDS 2nd Ed. & W.P.A. CEMETERY READINGS - April 2006. After two years of work, I have completed two more of my Vital Records projects for Somerset Co., PA. Many of these families are also in Fayette Co., PA Those of you familiar with my work may remember that in early 2004 I announced completion of a database on CD-ROM entitled, “Somerset County Pennsylvania Families: Early Vital Records.” It contained 20,790 birth records, 7950 marriage records, and 15,300 death records. The data sources were (1) the 44 years of publication of “Laurel Messenger,” the journal of the Historical & Genealogical Soc. of Somerset Co.; (2) my readings of the Cramer-King cemetery in New Centerville; (3) Cemetery readings from Harry Speer Rush’s book, “Rush & Skinner Families of Lower Turkeyfoot Twp.; (4) Cemetery readings from the Union Cemetery in Meyersdale Borough; and (5) Data from Dorothy Yoder Coffman’s book, “Sanner Baptismal Records.” I sent copies to libraries and made a few copies for individuals. I have now completed what I will call the Second Edition of that Database. To the above sources I have added readings of most of the 500+ cemeteries in Somerset county. Most of the data was extracted from the Internet on-line listings of cemeteries. Most of that Internet data was from the compilation of the 1930s WPA readings as recompiled by Della R. Fischer in 1977. Data from cemeteries missing on the Internet were extracted from original WPA data sheets by myself. Also added was Marriages from Stoystown Reformed Church, and the Birth, Marriage & Death data from the three years of LM published since the First Edition. Any cemeteries missing from this compilation were either missed by the WPA readers [at least 18 small ones], or were started after the WPA compilation [Somerset Memorial Gardens, for example]. The source databases now are at 22,797 births, 8731 marriages, and 50,264 deaths. The deaths database also contains calculated birth years, where ever possible. The original source files are also included in a separate directory, for reference purposes. The Births File is 490 pages, the Marriage File is 195 pages, and the Deaths File is 1150 pages. Each is sorted in multiple ways. In future I hope to add more birth and marriage data from church records and data from Biographical and Obituary sources to make a Third Edition. That is likely to take another two years work. The SECOND of my completed projects is a complete recompilation of the W.P.A. cemetery readings from the original worksheets. This was a joint project between myself and the Meyersdale Library who kindly loaned me a copy of the entire set of datasheets. There are 2782 pages in the WPA compilation archived in the Biesecker Public Library in Somerset. As noted above, Della Fischer recompiled the WPA Readings in 1977. However, there are major flaws in her compilation which this new database will remedy. One is that there was no over-all index. A person must look at all 500 cemeteries individually. Another is that many graves are omitted in her compilation. Also, only a few copies were made, and the print quality was poor. The new compilation has all 39,423 WPA grave records in a single file. It is about 900 pages in size, and is sorted in multiple ways. A notes field gives data on wife/of, husband/of/ son/of, daughter/of, etc., and military service. Bookmarks are used to enable the user to jump to any desired location in the files. Graphic Images of the 2782 original worksheet pages are included for reference. The earliest death is 1779, and the earliest birth is 1700. Most of the readings were done in the 1920s to 1940. However there are about 1000 deaths recorded between 1940 & 1990. Although the Deaths database on the Early Vital Records CD-ROM contains many of the same death data as the W.P.A. Compilation, they are not equivalent because of some missing graves in the Internet sources, and the notes field does not exist in the Deaths Database. Unlike the Vital Records Database, which will have additional data in future, the W.P.A. CD is final. As in the past I will donate copies of the CD-ROMs to libraries and will be happy to make copies for individuals for the same copy fee as before. Please contact me off the list for more details. There seems to be confusion over the Names Thomas and Francis. I have seen this before and believe that that whoever did the census report was not very competant. Thomas could have been in the area and merely visiting or the taker just messed up on the name. .Lydia Lilly's mother was a pastouris(SP) If you read the census reports carefully you will find that her father was born in Germany. I you take a look at the entire census for Fayette County You will find Lilleys in German , Menellan, and other townships .It seems they were all related somehow. There are a number of lilleys buried at New Salem

In reference to Mathias Lilley he was my G- Grandfather.Spent 3 mths this past fall in Uniontown getting verfications and documentations. He was the son of Francis A. Lilley if this helps in the mix of things. The putting together of things another dis. cous. and I put dates together and "came" to the conclusion that he was in the 1870 census after returning home from his stint in the Cival War. If I have info or can be of help just let me know will gladly share and try to help. In researching White Rock cemetery I found that Francis Lilley had purchased a small quantity of a cloth that was used for burials back then and all the larger it was had to be for an infant or small child so thats what I have been working on.Hope this helps in the mystery of Mathias Lilley. This book lists a key to certain names. When researching the "WALSER" name in church records, it states to look for the variant "WALTZER." Can you please email me directly and tell me the time frame you are interested in. There are records circa 1795 for a "Petrus and Efa WALSER," (Peter and Eva). Is this who you are looking for? There is also a "Petrus and Sarah WALTZER, Jr." Most of these records are baptismal records. Checking probate index for Fayette County, there is a Frederick WALSER, probate date 1788, Bk 1, Pg 11; and a Peter WALSER, probate date 1834, Bk2, Page 11. You might want to write to the Fayette County Prothonatary's Office and obtain a copy of these records. Hope some of this helps!

I think that Susan Lilley and my great grandmother Harriet Lilley (m. James Brownfield) were sisters. That would make Susan's son John Wesley Fisher, Jr a cousin to Harriet's daughter Mary. So, it looks like Mary married her first cousin. Thomas A. Lilley m. Lydia Gans dau. Susan Lilley dau. Harriett Rebecca Lilley My line goes: Thomas A. Lilley m. Lydia Gans dau. Harriett Rebecca m. James Brownfield son James Russell Brownfield (Mary would be his sister) m. Pheobe Ellen Brady son George A Brownfield m. Joan I Viola dau. (me) Sharon I. Brownfield m. Thomas P. Witt I'm missing who your mother/father are. But it looks like your line is, Thomas A. Lilley m. Lydia Gans Susan Lilley m. John Wesley Fisher Mary Elizabeth Fisher m. ??? your parent you I hope this makes sense. I think that something happened in the families of Thomas A. Lilley and his brother Francis Asbury Lilley. I see where some of the children are living with Thomas (1860 census) and then with Francis (1870 census). In the 1880 census there are even more kids. Plus to make things even more confusing, there were 3 different Lydia's as their wives. I was trying to patch these families together last night and was up past midnight when I finally had to give it up. I'll try to put something together with how I think they fit together. Take Care & God Bless, Sherry PS: I too thank Jane for all of her hard work and dedication to helping others. She has been a real blessing to me.

Hello... We are in need of someone to help out with the work load on the PAGenWeb Fayette site. The site is growing daily and we need HELP. In particular, if anyone is able to take over the Headstone Project part of the website - that would be a great help. The skills needed would be the ability to edit webpages using an html editor like Front Page. The ability to upload the photos, link them to the index and upload them. Being able to re-size them a with a photo editor like Irfanviewer is also a plus. If you are interested in helping, take a look at the pages at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~pafayett/headstones/index.html See if you can continue the pages as they are. Drop me a line if you are interested at: chrisnina@gmail.com Thanks, Chris PAGenWeb Co-ordinator
