Try this page of instructions instead. What you want from the National Archives is the serviceman's COMPILED MILITARY SERVICE RECORD. It will cost you $17 and take 4-6 weeks to get. If they can't find it, they will refund your money. This packet of documents is where the most valuable genealogical information on veterans resides, especially if there was a widow (which was not the case with my own 1812 veteran ggggf whose wife predeceased him). If the widow applied for a veteran's pension, the application will contain the names of his children living at the time of the app. With a common name like John White, though, you'll need more info on his military service from your own records to single him out: dates, unit, etc. Dick Kinkead Lantana, FL http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/military/

I have been reading your posts to others on Fay. Rootsweb. Thanks for your help. I saw where there were some names that I am researching from my Morgan side including: Campbell and Miller. The Wells show a Radcliff s(theirs is Radliff), and Woodward. Also, a Gue might be part of the Lancaster family. Both my side of the family and my husbands are pioneers of Brownsville, Bridgeport, and that part of Fayette Co. They are hard to track because their names are so common. Again, thanks a lot for helping so many others. Rosalie

I do not have any Rachel in my files though it's possible. Davis is not a direct line of mine. I did copy the below info for you in case you are not familiar with it which references how Davis ties into my lines of BRUNER and EICHER. Jenni History of Fayette County, by Franklin Ellis, Philadelphia, L H Everts and Company, 1882, p743 SALT LICK TOWNSHIP Shadrach Davis, by birth an Englishman, came to Salt Lick about the same time as the Dumbaulds. He was the father of Abraham Davis and Joshua Davis who were prominent in the history of the township. The former first lived on Champion Run on the farm now owned by Amos Millr, but died at the hamlet of Davistown where he owned and operated mills. He reared sons named Samuel Davis, who moved to Springfield in 1830 settling on the farm now owned by his son, Solomon Davis, where he died in 1873; Jacob Davis, yet living in Westmoreland county; Benjamin Davis and William Davis who removed to Defiance, Ohio; John Davis, Jehu Davis and Solomon Davis died in Salt Lick. The daughters of Abraham Davis married William Stull, Samuel Eicher, David Stull, Jacob Snyder, Eli Gallentine, and Daniel Bruner. Joshua David lived in the northwestern part of the township until his removal to Jefferson county about 1838.

I AM TRYING TO FIND OTHER PETERS FAMILY. ALSO JOHN SHEPLER EARLY 1800 OR WIFE ELIZABETH PETERS SHEPLER
Hi, I have been researching the LONG family from Bullskin Township for several years now and am a long distance researcher (I live in AZ:-)) I am trying to research the estate of Joseph Long who died in Bullskin Township in November 1829. He and his wife, Lydia, are buried in Old Connell Cemetery..Lydia died in November 1840. I have written to request a lookup for a will of Joseph Long but apparently there is no will listed in the Will Indices for Joseph Long and no record of Joseph Long listed in the Orphan's court indices. My question is: How would you go about researching the existence of an estate record/packet for Joseph Long...isn't there usually some type of distribution of the estate or appointment of an administrator if there is no will (even if no record to Joseph Long is found in an index??) I am trying to connect potential sons with Joseph Long and am hoping to find a record pertaining to the estate that may list heirs...I wish I was able to personally come and research myself but am unable to at this time. Any help anyone could be or direction you could point me to research would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time, Alison Bigbee
