I have a William Brooks bn abt 1871-1877 in Maryland who was married to Mary (Mollie) Wooddy. They were on the 1900 U S census living in Dunbar working as a coal miner. Don't know if they divorced or he died as Mollie married Abraham Gantz about 1904. Did Charles Brooks have a brother William? Pat

Larinda, I too found many of the names I have been researching in both Fayette and Somerset Counties. The CONN, COLBURN and BOWER connections I found at The Forks of the Cheat Cemetery in Stewartstown, Monongalia Co, WV. http://www.interment.net/data/us/wv/monongalia/forks_cheat/index.htm I am particularly interested in the CONN line as I can find no record of Emanuel CONN's (abt. 1809 ) father's name. However the same family names are in the Jersey Baptist Church Cemetery in Confluence, PA. http://www.rootsweb.com/~pasomers/cemetery/tf/tl0010.htm Anyone have any ideas? I would like to express my sincere appreciation and admiration to the volunteers that have contributed genealogical contributions/data to the Fayette County Genealogical Project. I have to search in other counties across the US and I am absolutely amazed at the fine job that has been done here. The other projects in other areas of the country should take a look at Fayette County and try to even come close to the standards that have been set here. Again, Thanks Everyone for a superior Job, Well done!! Angela Kendall
Dear Joyce: Sorry, I tried sending this to your personal address & it was undelivered. So, will try this route! I'm curious about the possible connection between our Grimm family lineage. Do you have a record regarding the marriage between James Wesley Burch and Malinda Grimm? They were married about 1840 in PA (possibly Greene Co.) The IGI lists Malinda's parents as Thomas Grim & Rachel McCullough, and they were listed in Jackson Twp., Greene Co. PA in 1850 census. I need to locate the marriage bond/records for this marriage, in order to firmly establish the parents for both James Wesley Burch & Malinda Grimm. I would appreciate any insight that you may have on this brick wall! Thanks So much! Clara W. Thompson St. Charles, MO

He is the only William Kirkpatrick listed in the county for the census years 1830, 1840 and 1850. 1850 census lists him as being born in Ireland abt. 1780. This matches the following naturalization record: Fayette County Naturalization records: #379 WILLIAM KIRKPATRICK; petition August 25, 1829; born in 1780 in County Tyrone, Ireland; migrated to the United States in 1802; petition filed also October 1824. Thomas Kirkpatrick's death certificate lists father as William Kirkpatrick born unknown and Margaret Kirkpatrick born Allegheny county. Thomas moved to Island Creek, Jefferson County, Ohio and is listed there in 1860,1870. In 1880 Thomas is in Uhrichsville, Tuscarawas County, Ohio. About 1884, Thomas moves to Broome County, New York with several of his children and dies there October 9, 1891 West Chenango Twp, Broome County, New York. To clarify my questions regarding Frederick C. Grimm, I am typing in his obit so you can see my problem -- FREDERICK C. GRIMM'S FUNERAL SERVICE HELD AT INDIAN HEAD CHURCH The funeral service for Frederick C. Grimm, 88 years old, (This would make him born in 1844 not 1848) who died Friday in the home of his son, John C. Grimm, of Luzerne township, near Merritstown, was held Sunday afternoon at the United Brethren Church at Indian Head. Rev. H. C. Gonso, pastor of the Church of God at Indian Head, and Rev. David Hunter of Republic officiated. The church choir sang "Nearer My God to Thee,' and "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers were Clarence, Robert, Carl and Albert Grimm, Fred Carry and Wallace Austin. Interment was in the church cemetery. The service at the church was preceded by a prayer in the son's home. Mr. Grimm was born at Normalville, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Grimm, (I have his parents as Peter Grim Jr. and Catherine Cossel) and with the exception of a few years, which he had spent among his children, he had resided all of his life there. He was a farmer by occupation and was the last of a family of seven children. (I have 9 children) He was widely known throughout the Indian Creek Valley. Besides his sons, John C. and William the last named of Uniontown and his two daughters, Mrs. Ida Vernon and Mrs. Bessie Glover, both of Connellsville, he is survived by 12 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. His wife, who was Miss Ellen Showman before her marriage, died 32 years ago. Source: Daily Courier, Connellsville, PA, Wednesday, June 1, 1932 The children listed in this obit, are correct according to his census records. I am currently seeking all his children's obits to see if they mention who their parents were. So far, none of the obits have. I have his wife's obit also. Frederick does not have a brother named David. I am going to send for his obit, that might solve my problem. I hope I haven't opened a "can of worms" here, as this info has been on line for years. If it is incorrect, I want to correct when I am done working on my Grimm line and get it back on line. Frederick C. is listed with his parents Peter and Catherine in the 1850 and 1860 census records. Frederick is 12 on the 1860 census, not 16 like he should be according to his obit. Thanks to all of you listers that have replied to my questions. I appreciate all input. Joyce

If you check one of the replies to my posts you'll see that Shadrack married a Susanna and had at least one daughter in Salt Lick Township named Hanna. I think there is a possibility that there could've been a mistake in my ancestor's baptismal record or a misread transcription.

While doing my search of Fayette Co. newspapers to prove and disprove names, dates, etc of people in my Grimm family line, I found something very questionnable. I am working on the Frederick Cossell Grimm family. He was born abt. 1848 in Fayette Co. and died May 27, 1932 in Uniontown. He married Mary Ellen Showman. The problem -- I have his obit from the Daily Courier newspaper. In his obit, it is written that he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. DAVID GRIMM. I have had him as the son of Peter Grimm Jr. and Catherine Cossel. Hence, his middle name. Do I have the wrong Frederick C. Grimm as Peter's son? Can any one give me any insight on this? Or is the obit incorrect and David should read Peter? Thanks for any help any one can give me. Joyce :)
