I have information of a marriage between Lewis Boden and Elizabeth Johnson (mother Nancy). Elizabeth was born December of 1836 and married Lewis Boden about 1860. Lewis was born July of 1842. In 1880 Elizabeth was living in Perry Twp, with her mother, aunt and two of her three children, her son Harvey Boden had died by this time. In 1860 Elizabteh was living with her mother and aunt before her marriage. Any help with information about this family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Terry

All people in Fayette County who are descended from the Tarr family who founded the small town of Tarrs in Westmoreland County are invited to a family reunion. Christian Tarr was a US Congressman from Fayette County in the early 1800's. The Tarr family reunion is on Sunday June 25, 2006, at the Hunker Fire Hall and picnic grove at Hunker, PA, in Westmoreland County. We set up a potluck dinner from noon to 1 PM with the meal beginning at 1. Coffee and cold drinks are provided. After the meal, we'll have a short business meeting, some catching up and lots of good fellowship. Hope to see you at the reunion. John Tarr

I sent this information to Barb and thought I would send it to the list in case anyone is trying to find the Carrie McCarty for her on the census. Beverly There is a Carrie E Goodwin who married Ray C C McCarty on Oct 13, 1906 in Fayette Co. Bk 41, page 159. 1910 census 4-Wd Uniontown Boro, Fayette, PA, Ray McCarty age 21 and Carrie E age 20 with children, Margaret E age 3 and Mary C age 1. 1920 North Union Twp., Fayette, Pennsylvania listed as McCarthy with Margaret , and Mary, Robert R age 8 and Geraldine age 2. In 1930 North Union listed as a widow, Carrie is with children Geraldine age 12, George T age 8, Irene age 6, and Charles age 4. On the Connellsville paper in the newspaperarchives.com, there is a Carrie Goodwin McCarty of Uniontown, who died in Jacksonville, Fla Jan 24, 1963. It mentions she has 4 sons and a daughter, a sister, and a brother George Goodwin of Uniontown, Since it is someone who was from Uniontown, the Connellsville paper sometimes does not include all of the family names. I have found that getting a copy of the obituary from the Uniontown papers, the other members of the family are usually listed.
Barb, You are in luck! Just go to Ancestry.com and click on the 1930 census. Use the surname, McCarty (don't provide a first name) and put in Pennsylvania and Fayette County and also born in Pennsylvania. Then you should receive a choice of 4-5 individuals. Carrie is listed with three children (no husband): Geraldine, George T. and a daughter, whose name I cannot decipher; perhaps you can. You might also try the 1920 census as well. I tried it and there was a problem with Ancestry at the time and I did not go back to it. You may be able to find her husband's name in the 1920 census. I joined Ancestry for one month and still can't find anyone on those census's. I know that some of you are very good at it and I'm hoping you can help me. I'm desperate. I'm looking for Caroline Goodwin McCarty born in Uniontown in 1898. Her parents were Robert and Margaret Goodwin. She is my grandmother's sister. She married someone named McCarty but he may have died because in the obits for Margaret and her brother Charles it lists all the sisters as Mrs. Joseph Twist, Mrs. Mary Kate David and her as Mrs. Carrie McCarty. ( No mention of a husband). The obits place her as living in Brooklyn NY in 1939 and 1941 (dates of the two obits.) I'd very much like to find her on a census so I could see if she ever had children. Here is what I've tried: C McCarty Carrie McCarty Caroline McCarty Carrie Mc Carthy. I've run out of things to try. Any suggestions? Barb Goss My hobby is Genealogy; I collect ancestors. I am looking for information about the family of Henry H. Lyons b. abt. 1852 d. 1903 (son of John Adams Lyons) and his wife, Eliza "Louisa" (Rhodes) Lyons b. 1850 d. 1928. They are listed in the 1880 census. This census shows three children Maude 4, Evert 2, and Margaret 1. I do not know is this family is listed in later census; I cannot find them. AND, I have an obit (9-30-1916) for Harry Lyons of Springhill, PA whose father is listed as Henry Lyons (son of John Adams Lyons). The obit does not mention his mother. Does anyone know what happened to the Henry H. and Louisa Lyons family. Are there more children? Is Harry a son of Henry H. ? Thank you for your help. Joyce (Lyons) Heigel jheigel@sweetwaterhsa.com

Joyce, The capital B should be a small be for born. Several of the names on that link at first glance appear to have B. as a middle initial for their name when in fact it stands for born. The webmaster of that site would probably be able to change all the capital B's to clear the confusion for you as well as others who visit. I could notfind anobit for your Henry Lyons. Please take the time to read the great article in the Herald Standard online edition, regarding Lanny Golden and Dennis Morrisison. They've set an example for all of us who complain about the condition of some of the old cemeteries and then go looking for a civic group or government agency to clean them up. We owe a special thanks to both of them for their initiative and hard work. http://www.heraldstandard.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=16703518&BRD=2280&PAG=461&dept_id=480247&rfi=6 or http://www.heraldstandard.com/site/news.asp?brd=2280 Marc Whetsel Fayette Cemeteries Online
Hi Fayette County listers, At the invitation of the message below I surfed the Fayette County web page. Very impressive. Indexes and a search engine. Lots of cemetery and obit information. Thanks to all the people who worked so hard to contribute the information posted there. I found an obit of considerable interest to me. Mrs. Ann Bowman died in 1920. The obit says she is survived by her father, Louis DEAN and two Brothers, William DEAN of Uniontown and John DEAN of Oliphant. These are common given names in the DEAN family I am researching. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with any information on these Dean-s. For those of you who may have connections to Fayette County, I invite you to have a look at the Fayette County Cemeteries online. In March 2005, we undertook the task of identifying, locating and documenting the cemeteries of Fayette County, PA, as part of the USGenWeb project. Our goal was to make this information freely available to both local and long distance researchers. With the help of some very dedicated volunteers, this has become a reality. We've spent the past few weeks updating the site in time for Memorial Day. We now have about 20,000 veteran's burials documented. 29 new cemeteries have been added, for a total of 484. 40 cemeteries have had major updates of added information and corrections. Over 4,000 new entries have been added for a total 43,400 burials. There are over 200 pictures of the entrances to the cemeteries and thousands of individual head stone pictures. While the project is nowhere near completed, we have made tremendous progress in documenting the burials of our ancestors. As progress, the elements and vandalism take their toll, the family plots and country cemeteries shrink and disappear. This is our effort to see that those buried there are never forgotten. Go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~pafayett/index.html and click on CEMETERY RECORDS...or http://www.rootsweb.com/~pafayett/cemetery/index.html Be sure to sign the guest book. This message is being sent to the mailing lists of the counties adjacent to Fayette. If you receive more than one copy, my apologies. I am looking for information on Robert Hustead, born reportedly in about 1755 in NY and died in Fayette County, Pa 1838. I do not know if he had a will but would be interested in parents, wife and especially children. Did he have a son named John? Thanks so much. Clarence Mays
