Good morning listers. I'm in another state of confusion here. I have census records showing a family living in Everson, Fayette Co. PA and then I have obits stating that Everson is in Westmoreland Co. Are there two of them? I looked at the maps and see that there is an Everson just south of Scottdale. I'm lost on this one. Any help would be great! Thanks in advance. Joyce %-)
Hello listers Does anybody know if Staten BARNES had a son named William? Staten was b. in 1832 and the first child I have for him was in 1860. I am trying to determine if he might have had an earlier child, hopefully named William. Thanks for any help. Betty C. Mark's blog: http://accidentalwine.blogspot.com/ trumpcard1@earthlink.net
Does anyone have a picture of Hardy Hill School ? It was sold and turned into a church. The Nativios live beside where it stood. Really hoping to find it . Frances, Read Marc's comments again. He is 100% correct. The value of LDS is that they do not claim the validity of their data. Other organizations have claimed validity of data which they have made no attempt to certify. Frank McGrath

Frances, I've learned some great life lessons from genealogy and the internet. 1. Some people don't believe they need to be corrected. Aunt Edith told them something and that's the way it shall always be. It makes no difference how many official documents you have. 2. Some people get a new pc for Christmas, log onto the internet, decide they are going to "be" a genealogist, copy lots of bad information, claim it as their own, upload it to a site and sit back and wait for a prize of some sort. 3. Some people don't know how to get back into the file they posted and make corrections, so they continue uploading files full of bad info to sites like ancestry.com. I'm saddened by all the junk that the LDS site has uploaded. Although they are still, in my opinion, the most reputable, one must now sort through all the trash to come up with good information. 4. Read #'s 1 and 2, again. 5. Last, but not least, I can only correct my own work! I can research, question, document and record my family's histories. I can regret that I didn't keep good documentation when I first began this obsession, but sleep well at night knowing I didn't copy someone else's information that may not have been correct. I've given up on the three greatest genealogy myths; that I descend from an Indian Princess; that someone got mad at someone and changed the spelling of their name, just to get even; and that I can correct someone elses research. I can only correct my own! There is a lot of information on the web regarding my family (and possibly yours) that is wrong. How do you correct it? I have tried writing to some of the people and they either ignore me or question my motives. Any suggestions? A case in point. Many Springer researchers say that Mary Sampey Springer (Mrs. Josiah Small Springer), went back to her maiden name and died in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. She actually died in McDonough County, Illinois. The Mary Sampey who died in Montgomery county was a single lady who never married and had no children (I have a court document attesting to that). Wow, I can't believe it's gone. We grew up going there and it was a big deal. I can't remember when we didn't. Times were tight and the best part was eating in the cafeteria. We drove there every 2 weeks from Latrobe. I shopped there all my life till we moved to Tennessee. Thanks for posting the link. From what I understand, the idea was that the creditors would have the body of the parent until the children paid the debts. My ancestor Andreas Bash died in debt and years later his son Michael was petitioning the court for help in settling his estate; page 6 - Michael Bash verses Frederick Bash a/o no.1 filed March 8, 1802 page 7 - Washington County, February 12, 1811 Sir Eight or nine years ago I filled a bill in Chauncery to enable me to sell and wake a right to my fathers land lying in Washington County and since the estate has been settled to the satisfaction of all the heirs, there are every year bills of --- (sp) causing (sp) out against the estate owing I suppose to the ----- (sp) of W. Hi Fayette Friends, My friend in Iowa sent this. It is interesting. Rosalie Subject: Re: [PAFAY] Lack of Tomb Stones on Graves Curious stories. Don't know much about the background of tombstones except for the Amana Colonies - a German communal group of 7 villages near my home town in Iowa Co., IA who came to U. S. in the 1850-60's. The folks there make all their tombstones exactly alike from the same mold, and they all have the same information on them....so no one can be looked down upon or look too high and mighty.... a good concept, and they still follow it today - if they want to be buried in the Amana cemeteries - they can only have the tombstone of "choice" and they are buried in a row as they die....no family plots. So if you know what year someone died, you can walk directly to that year and the village people are all buried there day after day, month after month - just as they passed away. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No virus found in this incoming message. I had to reply with a WOW on this one....if a creditor would come steal the body of a deceased loved one for a debt that was owed......there must have been something wrong with them in those days, but then again.....some creditors will hound you even if you're dead !!! My father died in 2002 and for a long time afterwards my mom still received calls for him, one for the ambulance ride to the hospital when he was transferred to a hospital farther away (which was to be paid anyway since he was admitted ??) Solicitors still call the house asking for him, some of them I have even told previously that he passed away and they still keep calling.... I, personally have never heard of this about creditors or the devil, but nothing surprises me...the old wives tales, the superstitions, and so forth....some of them were funny and some of them make you wonder..... I have not heard of that superstition about unmarked graves. Several of my ancestors are in unmarked graves. Mostly because they were poor. One ancestor had a marble tombstone which was stolen. Was there a poorhouse near the cemetery? I don't know about other states, but some people in Virginia buried their parent in an unmarked grave if they were afraid creditors would take the body for collateral when their parent was deeply in debt at the time they died. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Angela Kendall" <ark@tampabay.rr.com> To: <PAFAYETT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 11, 2006 2:28 PM Subject: [PAFAY] Lack of Tomb Stones on Graves > Here's a new one for you. Here's a new one for you. My cousin, Tom Kendall was looking for the burial sites of our Kendall's & Carters in the Warrenton, Virginia area and this is what he was told by the local funeral home: they would not put tomb stones on the graves because they were afraid the Devil would come and steal the bodies. Have you ever heard that religious belief before? If so what religious belief does this derive from? Maybe the American Indian influence???? You thoughts on this would be appreciated
