    1. "Dolly Jiles" - GILES WHITE ECCLES
    2. Hi! My 98 year old ggg grandmother is listed on the 1860 Connellsville census at the home of her son-in-law Henry WHITE. She is listed as "Dolly JILES". Henry WHITE and Elizabeth GILES are my gg grandparents. When I started looking into the GILES family, I began with "Biographical and Portrait CYCLOPEDIA of Fayette County Pennsylvania". This publication states that Samuel Giles "came to Fayette County in 1814 and married Dorotha Day". For most of the last decade I have been looking for information on Dorotha "Dolly" Day who was born around 1762. I only knew that Elizabeth GILES WHITE, born < 1801> in Virginia and Thomas GILES, born <1807> in Pennsylvania were children of my "Dolly JILES". Thomas GILES appeared adjacent to Henry WHITE on the 1840 census. He operated a hotel in Dunbar later in the century and I believe that Giles House in Dunbar was named after him. Tom and Rebecca Giles had 16 children. Mike Livieri, gggg grandson of "Dolly Jiles". has recently discovered the following information on "Dolly Jiles" in the Las Vegas Nevada library: Matilda GILES ECCLES, daughter of Thomas GILES and granddaughter of "Dolly JILES" celebrated her 99th birthday in 1937. The newspaper story describing this event said that her grandmother, Dorothy FIELDS GILES, came from England and lived to be 103 near Gillmore Mills. Mike also found the marriage of Samuel Silvester GILES to Dorothy PHIELDS. This item says that Dorothy PHIELDS was born in Pennsylvania. Tentatively, I am adopting Dorothy FIELDS GILES as my ggg grandmother's actual name. I know that Dorothy FIELDS GILES was living with her husband Samuel on the 1840 census. I know that Dorothy FIELDS GILES was living with her daughter Elisabeth and son-in-law Henry WHITE on the 1860 census. I have no knowledge of where she was on the 1850 census. Henry WHITE bought land in McHenry county, Illinois in 1843. He was not happy and moved back to Fayette county before the 1850 census. His mother-in-law was not with him in 1850. A Samuel GILES bought land close to Henry WHITE in McHenry county, Illinois in 1845. I was elated until I read that this Samuel GILES had probably come from Winthrop, Mass. Mike Livieri found that Thomas GILES and his brother Samuel GILES migrated with their families to Van Buren county Iowa. Although they were not in Fayette County for the 1850 census Thomas had returned to Fayette County for the 1860 census; Samuel stayed in Iowa. If anyone has any information or questions concerning Dorothy FIELDS GILES I would appreciate hearing from them, Frank McGrath

    3. Hi , I am coming to PA. Searching my ancestors' gravesites is on my to do list! Can someone give me directions to the Oak Grove Cemetery, the one where Aaron Brooks and his wife, Elizabeth are buried? Is that the same one where Henry and Elizabeth Lyons are buried? Then, I need directions to St John's Lutheran Church to see the church and to see where James and Mary Brooks, George and Juliana Baker are buried. And, at least one more area, the Gans Farms where William and Anny Lyons are buried. Does anyone know where Joseph and Christina Gans ... and Jacob (Joseph's father) and his wife "Kate" are buried? Thank you for your help, Joyce (Lyons) Heigel

    1. John Ganoe/Gano/Gayneau family
    2. Hi ALL. I am trying to locate John Ganoe's parents, brothers and/or sisters. He was in Spring Hill Twp. in the early 1800's. From information I have received from another researcher from a different line a Nicholas Ganoe left NJ after the Revolutionary War, migrating first to what is Preston County VA/WV and then on to probably Georges Twp by 1800. There is a census reccord (1800) for a Nicholas Gannaw/Gannow in Georges Twp. My 3rd ggrandmother was Hannah Ganoe, b. 1783 in NJ. My cousin Lee was at the PA room at the Uniontown library yesterday on his way back to DC. He said there was a small book (maybe 12-14 pages) of John's family and descendants but no info on parents or siblings. He did not have time to make a copy of this document. I will gladly pay expenses for a copy. I believe John and Hannah were brother and sister. Anyone doing research on this line/surname, their help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot. 1. John McCullough
    2. Larkin Dellinger
    3. In the Horn Papers, volume 3, it has the patent maps for Fayette County. It has listed a John McCullough with a patent dated Feb. 25, 1784. It is located in part of Brownsville. In fact, my understanding, he sold part of it to Thomas Brown who started Brownsville. Any one having any knowledge of this John McCullough. There was another John McCullough that settled near the Zollarsville area in southern part of Washington County. Of course, John was probably a favorite name and used quite often. There was a Samuel McCullough listed next farm over from John. is there any relation of the families mentioned. Any help on these family would be appreciated. Thanks, larkin

Luckily, here in Ohio, you can go to Columbus and other area libraries and print out obits for about 25 cents each. Just trying to get around the $9.00 per death certificate for PA. Which I will pay if there is no other way! Thanks, Karen
