----- Original Message ----- From: "albert peloquin" <floralp@earthlink.net> To: <PAFAYETT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 12, 2004 12:27 PM Subject: [PAFAY] PELOQUIN > Edward: > > My maternal uncles had told me that my step-father had taken my half-sister to one of the Carolinas and through a website I joined in NC I located my step-father's name. I was able to write to some people in NC and was happy to receive a reply envelope in the mail, but very disappointed to find a funeral home memoriam with her picture. She died in 1970 which was before we lived in NC. Did you get a death certificate on your mother from North Carolina yet? Nothing like the facts! You can find both parents names and where they were born on the DC's, and the cause and exact time and place of death. How about her marriage license application? Where and when? Church affiliated? All of the answers to these questions will help you springboard to other questions and answers. Don't hesitate to ask your questions on this list. You can easily draw from the experience of about 800 active genealogy researchers. From that I was able to get an obituary from a newspaper. Our mother died when Arlene was six days old and I don't think she ever knew she had a half-brother. I was not listed as a survivor. After Mother died, I lived with my maternal grandparents. Are you still in contact with your maternal grandparents? Where do they live? Did you already get their complete names, dates of birth, and maiden name? Where married and when. These are imporatant when building the puzzle. > > I was born in Brooklyn where my mother and Paul PELOQUIN lived. Our family has lived in North Carolina since 1975. Do you have your own birth certificate? Were you adopted by Paul? Was paul listed as your father on the BC? > > I appreciate your very prompt. You are most kind. > > Albert Peloquin I have helped several folks find their biological parents. It takes pereverence and easy access to local records. There is a mailing list at rootsweb.com which is dedicated to helping folks find their biological parents. Try a search on google.com for help in finding biological parents. Last time I searched there was a million helpful sites. Arm yourself with every once of intelligence you can ferret out. Take notes, and use them. Keep asking questions. Keep searching. Eventually you'll hit pay dirt. If you still live in North Carolina, can you make the trek to Fayette County, Pa.? Your father might have been registered with the draft board. Did you get his DC from Canada yet? When did he move to Canada? Good luck! BTW- There is a very good possibility that my father and grandfather knew your father. Too bad they have taken the final sojurn. Edward Dunlevy
List Members Found and recorded this cemetery, last month, when we had the warm weather. This cemetery is in VERY bad shape, setting in a pasture field. Most stones, except small natural stones, have been knocked over. The first name on one stone is VERY hard to read, I have given what I can read. I have a picture of stone, if someone thinks to decipher it. Ken QUAKER CEMETERY------------- FRANKLIN TWP. Located on Rowes Run Road. To find Travel to Smock, Take Smock road 1 2/10 miles from the Honor Roll, to Rowels Run Road. Go 1 1/10 mile to top of hill, 1/4 mile past Center Gas Rd. Cemetery on Left, next to road. I was told by local residents that cemetery was known as Quaker Cemetery, and that many stones were stolen over the years, and there were many more stones years ago. There are many unmarked field stones, and some with only initials chiseled on them. Apparently are many unmarked graves. Cemetery is a pasture field. Listers: Taken from the Scotch-Irish list. If you have SI ancestors this is terrific list, with a very informative listmistress, Linda Merle. Marybeth C. ========= << Here's a website that has a black list of Pennsylvanians who refused to take the oath to the Continental Congress (etc). Most left, eventually settled in Canada or somewhere else. No doubt like in Virginia, a few returned in the early 1800s: http://my.tbaytel.net/bmartin/blacklst.htm . Also checking "Guide to genealogical Sources at the Pennyslvania Archives" by Dructor which clarifies on page 9 that many of the documents in "lists of persons who took the oath of allegiance 1770-1790" (RG 26) are LOYALTY OATHS not naturalization papers. It also helpfully tells us that SOME of the oaths were printed in the PA Archives, Second Series, Vol III. Before 1786 they only give the person's name and residence -- so even if the person was foreign born, these documents are of no assistence in distinguishing between foreign born and native residents. So apparently there's some more of these oaths, unpublished, at the physical PA Archives. Maybe filmed by LDS....donno. An excellent source for trying to locate the origins of an immigrant (Immigration Research) is to be found at www.genealogy.com/university.html. Several free courses. My family has found the origins of several colonial and early 18th century ancestors this way. The strategies can work to just find the prior generation in difficult cases such as one of ours. Generations of family researchers were searching for the name of the ancestor's parent (German, so I won't mention it here). My sister reviewed every land record with the surname for 50 years in the county (Allegheny, PA) and found a land registration in the late 1800s in which our ancestor mentioned his parents (father spelled surname differently), siblings, cousins, etc, anyone who might still be alive to swear that he had received the land from his father. It was a lot of work but well worth it. Now the father's our brick wall .... you always got one. The trouble is that there is NO single document that will always give you the origin of the colonial immigrant so you must search all records till you do find a clue. Sometimes the only clue will be in the oral history of a collateral line so if you don't trace collateral lines, you will never find the one clue. It's frankly very difficult work for Scotch Irish unless you luck out. Linda Merle ______________________________ >>
