    3. You may wish to call the State Archives of your state and see if they can recommend someone. I know that place we send our journals to be bound does some restoration work, but it is expensive. You may wish to get more than one estimate. You want to also be assured of the fact they will use acid free paper. If you watch the Antiques Road Show, quite often they recommend ways of preservation or who to call and also if there is a reputable museum near you, you may wish to find out who does there restorations, do they send them out, or is it inhouse work On Thu, 15 Jan 2004 DRDMADD@aol.com wrote: > List, > > I have a question: > > Where can someone get a well over 100 year old birth certificate which has > fallen into pieces professionally restored. 1. [PAFAY] Livengood/Ruppel/Burnworth Families
    2. ellen Levy
    3. There was a lot of postings recently on the Ruppel family of Somerset & Fayette Counties. My husband is a descendant of Elizabeth Ruppel (abt 1769) and John Burnworth, and I've been digging around a bit looking for information on these and related families. Thanks to Rinnah Burns, I discovered Elizabeth Ruppel is the daughter of Jacob Rupel (1742) and Margaret Livengood. I recently found the following information from the book "Both Sides of the Ocean: Amish Mennonites from Switzerland to America," by J. Virgil Miller, published 2002, Mastof Press: "Peter Livengood was one of the first settlers in what is now Somerset County, Pennsylvania. It has been said that Peter was Amish and then joined the Brethren. It is beginning to look as though he may have joined the Brethren shortly after arrival in America. His background is Lutheran or Reformed rather than Amish or Mennonite. The Livengood family emigrated with people other than Anabaptists, and first settled in areas where the Brethren had meetings. ... Peter was a trader, and even after migrating across the mountains he made many trips back and forth to Lancaster and Berks Counties. After he settled in Elklick Township, Somerset County, he bought land for himself and his children. Although some of Peter's children intermarried with the Amish, Peter himself became a Brethren minister and most of his children joined the Brethren. Exceptions were Barbara Livengood, married to David Yoder; and Peter Livengood, married to Anna Beachy. The family of Peter Livengood's second wife, Barbara Nafziger, was originally Amish, but they joined other churches after the first migration to America. Peter Livengood was a good neighbor to the Amish-Mennonites and a leader in the pioneer community of Elklick township, Somerset County." The book states that Peter Livengood's father was (Hans) Jacob Levegood, Jr., born ca. 1715, em. 1750; Douglas Twp., Berks Co, PA; then Tulpehocken Twp, Berks Co, PA. Han's Jacobs father: Hans Jacob Liebengut, b. ca. 1690, Alsace, em. on the ship "Phoenix in 1750." Douglas Twp, Berks Co. The family apparently came from Schalkendorf in northern Alsace between Bouxwiller and Niederrodern. Please contact me if you'd like additional information. The book does contain information on the Amish Nafziger family as well. Ellen (ellenlevy66@yahoo.com) --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! 2. The Vital Records web site stated that if the request was submitted AND post marked by 31 December 2003, they would honor the old fees. This was even printed on the birth and death request forms. This does point out the reason for checking with state and county authorities before sending for records. Janice Ramsey Lear

    2. Helen Della-Volpe
    3. Hello, sometime ago, there was a question about the MOON family, and a suggestion was made to search in Augusta Co. Va. I have a book which lists some pioneers of Old Augusta Co. VA . I found this reference which may help someone, In 1757, there were several "alarms" about Indian raids. In July of that year there was a raid by the Shawnees, and according to the Preston Register, July 25, 1757,"Robert Renick and THOMAS MOON at 'Fork of James River' were killed, and Mrs., Renick and seven children, and a Mrs.Denis were taken prisoners." This was the only MOON listed in the index. Regards, Helen

    2. Mike Miller
    3. Helen, I'll bet that is where the 1757 date became associated with George Troutman of Fayette Co and his Indian Attack story. 1757 is now mistakenly thought of as his birth date which was really 1746 as per the Hester-Stough Genealogy. What if the book you are reading there? Are they any mentions of Indian attacks where a Troutman/Trautmann family was involved? I have always wondered if the Troutman family was not living farther West than Fayette when the traditional Indian attack story happened and wondered if or how the Troutman's Retreat land grant in Stewart Twp might fit into the Troutman Indian Attack/Kidnap story. I wish I had seen the tomahawk George passed down before it was stolen from the museum. I have been told it was stone pipe and tomahawk combined with a wooden handle. Given this type of pipe, I wonder if it was not obtained when George reportely went to Crabapple Creek area near Wooster,OH to get his sisters back? Thanks for any leads, Mike Miller On Thursday 15 January 2004 09:37, Helen Della-Volpe wrote: > Hello, sometime ago, there was a question about the MOON family, and a > suggestion was made to search in Augusta Co.
