Gladys L. STULL Brown, 79, of Uniontown, Pa., formerly of Connellsville, Pa., died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, in the Uniontown Dialysis Center. She was born Oct. 24, 1924, in Connellsville, (Moyer), Pa., a daughter of the late James STULL and Edna BURNWORTH Ellenberger. Gladys was employed by Anchor Hocking Corporation of Connellsville, prior to moving to Alexandria, Va., where she worked as a cashier at the Dixie Pig Restaurant. Following her retirement, she returned to Pennsylvania, where she resided the last several years. Gladys was a member of the Great Bethel Baptist Church of Uniontown, and was an avid bingo player. She is survived by three daughters, Judy Piatti and husband, Victor, of Uniontown, Billie Corley and husband, David, of Alexandria, Va., and Bobbie Hewitt, of Woodbridge, Va.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bertha McClintock and husband, Robert, and Dora Karfelt, both of Connellsville; and several nieces and nephews. Mabel G. MILLER Bierer, 89, of Smithfield, Pa., died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, in Laurel Ridge Nursing Home, Uniontown, Pa. She was born Dec. 13, 1914, in Brownfield, Pa., daughter of the late Thomas A. MILLER and Maggie E. WILSON Miller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell BIERER; a daughter, Emily Marietta; one son, Walter BIERER; five sisters, Jessie MILLER, Hazel Wilson, Margaret Bell, Elizabeth Welker and Elsie Golden; and two brothers, Alvin D. MILLER and Thomas E. MILLER. Surviving are two children, Lawrence BIERER and his wife, Eloise, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and James BIERER and his wife, Nancy, of Columbia, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mildred Smith, of Uniontown, Pa., Florence Blaney, of Ocean Side, Calif., and Lucille Geary, of Laurel, Md. Mabel was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church of Smithfield, Pa., She worked as a seamstress for many years at Benson's and Crane's Men Store in Uniontown, and also at Moser's Grocery Store in Smithfield. Leslie L. McMAHON, 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, in Mt. Macrina Manor, Uniontown, Pa., with his family at his side. He was born Jan. 31, 1928, in Lemont Furnace, Pa., son of the late John and Ruth SULLIVAN McMAHON. He was a driver/salesman for Pepsi Cola and known as Mr. Pepsi. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of AMVETS Post 105, American Legion Post No. 51, V.F.W. Post No. 47 and Teamsters Local No. 491. Mr. McMahon was also a member of the Third Presbyterian Church, the John Knox Class and the Menallen Grange No. 1091. Surviving are his wife, Sarah L. ROCKWELL McMahon; four children, Leslie L. Barbara Lee HART Howard, R.N., age 79, of Richmond, Virginia, and formerly of Cumberland, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2004 after a long illness. She was born January 2, 1925 to Mary REAGAN Hart and James F. HART, in McClellandtown, Pa. Barbara attended Bethany College and graduated from The University of Maryland School of Nursing. She was a member of Saint Edward Roman Catholic Church and the Richmond Zeta Tau Alpha Alumni Chapter, and a volunteer for the Instructive Visiting Nurses Association. Prior to moving to Richmond she served several years as an Officer and Director with Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Governing Boards of the Western Maryland Health Services Agency and Allegany County Nursing Home all in Cumberland, Maryland. Mrs. Howard was preceded in death by both parents and her husband of 41 years, William A. HOWARD. Mrs. Howard is survived by her five beloved children: daughter Anne Murden and husband, John, son Bill and wife, Pat, and daughter, Lee, all of Richmond, Virginia, daughter Mary Beth Riley and husband, Jim, of LaVale, Maryland, and son, Bob and friend, Sarah, of Scottsdale, Arizona; and nine grandchildren. Thomas N. CARLETON, 69, of 100 Florence Drive, New Stanton, died Wednesday in Frick Community Health Center, Mount Pleasant. He was born Dec. 29, 1917 in Bridgeport, a son of the late Thomas F. and Mary Mitchell Carleton. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by DME Corp. in Youngwood. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the US Marine Corps. in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, the National Rifle Association, Mount Pleasant VFW, Mount Pleasant American Legion, Hecla Sportsmen's Cub, Bridgeport Sportsmen's Club, and the Police Falcons of Mount Pleasant. Carole Clarke; There are two other possibilities for Centerville... There is one in S. Hunington Twp in West Moreland Co. It is located just east of Smithton, Pa and could have been part of Fayette Co at one time, but is so slose to the border, it is often mistaken for being in Fayette CO. Also, there is a New Centerville located West of Somerset.. also very close to the Fayette Co border.. You would find it near routes 281 and 653 on a map. Good luck to you in your research... Louis Edward "Ed" Shipley, 92, of Elizabeth Township, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, in UPMC- McKeesport Hospital. He was born Feb. 19, 1911, in Bidwell and was the son of the late Samuel K. and Mary Julia Hayes Shipley. He was a member of the Greenock United Methodist Church and the National Rifle Association. He served in the Marine Corps from 1934 to 1938 aboard the USS Idaho. He was a retired inspector and guard for the former USX-National Tube, Christy Parks Works and Moody Engineering Co., Pittsburgh. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Schmidt Shipley and nieces and nephews. Friends are welcome today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the GILBERT FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 6028 Smithfield St., Boston, Elizabeth Township. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel, Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. David S. Lake officiating. Entombment will follow at the Restland Memorial Park, Monroeville.
