I just checked my 1905 and 1952 Brownsville Directories, neither mentions an Altman. I checked Glenn Tunney's #138 Column "Locals called the new hotel the Monongahela House, but a 1920 Sanborn fire insurance map of Brownsville labels it the "New Monongahela Hotel." According to the map, the right- hand third of the new hotel's ground floor (as viewed from the front) was occupied by a men's furnishings store and the middle portion by the hotel lobby and offices. The left side was a bar until 1919, when prohibition closed all hotel bars and sent customers scurrying to speakeasies." This may be the men's store described. Hi Listers, Recently, someone added info on Cunnard family members. My ancestor, Walter Scott Colbert, b. Jan 8, 1878, married Gertrude Cunnard on Aug 23, 1900. Does anyone out there have info on Gertrude, such as birthdate, parents, etc.? I wonder if Gertrude was related to the Cunnard family mentioned in the recent posting? All replies will be gratefully received. Thanks. Larry Colbert

I wanted to let people know that there is a Thorpe DNA study going on right now involving the Thorpe's who settled in Fayette County in the late 1700's. This includes all descendants of Reuben Thorpe (1755, Woodbridge, NJ) and Hannah Lobdell, as well as many of Reuben's brothers who settled in Fayette Co., PA, and Perry Co., Ohio. You can find the results of this study at www.thorpedna.org. Please note this a non-commecial site. I am coordinator of the project and can answer any questions regarding this study or DNA testing in general. The Fayette County Thorpe's originally hail from Woodbridge, NJ, so results are listed under the first known male ancestor of this lineage: Thomas Thorpe (1631) of Woodbridge.
