    1. Re: [PAFAY] 1942 Sel. Service cards and the 1917/18 cards.
    2. Louise, These 1942 cards for PA and VA, have been filmed recently by the LDS but they are not officially released on film at the moment at the NARA. Maybe the LDS has already released their films for those states. I copied the original cards at the NARA. Some states are available on micro film like WV, DE, and MD. But VA and PA, are not ready for publishing at the moment for some reason but they will be out soon I imagine. The different regional branches of the NARA hold these cards. The Mid Atlantic Branch here in Philadelphia holds the records for PA, VA, WV. MD & DE. Having already used the Micro Filmed 1942 cards at the NARA for WV, I can tell you that they don't come out as well that way. If the image is faint it would not film well. However, they come out better than the filming of the 1917/18 cards. And are arranged by surname for the entire state and not individual boards. Ancestry.com has the 1917/18 cards. Although, they have been scanned from the film images so there is one more degree of loss of detail especially when the images are so dark. But a subscription to that data base would be worth it as I'm sure the 1917/18 data base had to be indexed. In that case the electronic version would be more powerful as the film version is in alphabetical by every board. So to find a person on the film version you would have to know in what area to look to find the correct board. Some of the larger cities had many S.S. Boards. I think Fayette County alone had at least seven. Roughly, the same age group of men were required to register for both WW I and WW II on these specific registrations. There were other registrations but I don't think that information has been released because of the age of the people involved. 3. I have a small brown leather scrapbook entitled, "The Graduate's Happy Days." I was copyrighted by Barse & Hopkins in 1920 and in the front is a table of contents to guide the graduate, such as a list of the classmates, autographs, the faculty, societies and clubs. My mother added some information to this list as the years went by, such as who had died or who was married and to whom. This may take a few days to list the names and social events that the 1923 graduate was involved.
