    1. Re: [PAFAY] 1942 Sel. Service cards and the 1917/18 cards.
    2. In a message dated 2/1/04 5:50:32 PM Eastern Standard Time, MStateler@aol.com writes: << Robert, Thank you for all of your information. I will begin our search at some of the sites you listed. It is the State of Indiana, City of Rockport, County of Spencer, Township of Ohio, and I am looking for WWII. I am looking for anything on my Uncle James M. Coleman, 82nd Airborne, 505 PIR, 2nd Bn., HH Company. He was in from June 22, 1942 through November 3, 1945. He was injured in Holland which resulted in the loss of his eye. Thanks, Marva Stateler@aol.com >> Marva, Sorry, I looked up the wrong state but I'm sure Indiana is also at that site. I don't think he will be on the 1942, (4th registration) as that was for older men born between 1877 and 1879. But he maybe on the casualty list but I'm not sure if they contained just the men that died or were also wounded. I'm sure the NARA site will state that information. His military service may have survived. I think WW II records are kept in St. Lewis. They had a fire and some records were lost. There should be a page of the NARA site where you can print out an application. I have my father's file from information that he saved and it is quite a bit of information so I would imagine they had a duplicate of his info there. He is listed as Captain USAAF, WWII-ETO-357 Sqd.-355 Fighter Grp. 8TH Air Force. It has all his missions, men he served with and trained. Official photo card, description, blood type that sort of thing. But I found the dates to be the most helpful as to where he was deployed at different times. On a personal note, my Mother told me I was named after a buddy of his that didn't make it back, killed in a crash in Germany, named Robert White. When I asked my father years later about this he didn't say anything, just became silent, so I didn't want to upset him and left it drop. But I found Bob White listed in his records and among the many photographs he took at that time. Good Luck, Robert

Do you know if Indiana has been microfilmed and if so, how do you get your hands on them. Marva Stateler mstateler@aol.com >> Marva, You can check to see if the LDS have the films for that state or check the NARA at their sites online. I would check with Ancestry.com to she how much of the entire collection is on line presently. There were 22,000,000 records for WW I, alone. NARA site: http://www.archives.gov/ The original records for your region would be held at the Great Lakes Regional Branch in Chicago Ill. I went to the catalogue of films at the NARA and they listed for example WV, WW II Cards. Microfilm ID M1937 Record Group RG147 Title WWII draft cards (Fourth Registration) for the state of West Virginia Physical Description 56 reels ; NARA Viewing Location Archives I Research Room Services Branch National Archives and Records Administration 7th and Pennsylvania Ave., NW Washington DC 20408-0001 Phone: 202-501-5400 Holdings note: 160-1 I also saw Delaware 1942 cards listed but no other states at the moment. I know that in Philadelphia I can also access Maryland on film for the 1942 films. But it isn't listed in the catalogue at the moment. Apparently the catalogue needs to be updated. This is the page you will need for the 1917/18 cards and it lists where they can be viewed if you want to use the film version: http://merrimack.nara.gov/cgi-bin/starfinder/18846/micfilm.txt It appears that each region will have their own records on film right now and not states that fall into other regions. They state there are 4,272 rolls as the physical description of the entire collection. But Illinois isn't listed in this catalogue. Seems like the entire site is out of date. The following page does list Illinois and the other states but not in the catalogue: http://www.archives.gov/research_room/genealogy/military/wwi_draft_registratio n_cards.html This next page is for only Illinois and what is on each film for that state: http://www.archives.gov/research_room/genealogy/military/wwi_draft_registratio n_illinois.html The following page will give you the branches and times to access records and films for the entire country. http://www.archives.gov/facilities/index.html Good Luck, Robert
