Looking for information on the Greenfield Family. They owned and operated a grocery store in Brownsville. They had at least one son Bruce Greenfield born around 1949. Not much to go on so any info would be appreciated. Regards, Janet

Hi, Does anyone out there have any information on a Corneliny B. Holliday, birth date unknown, died Jan 3, 1887? He married my ancestor, Emma Colbert, on Apr 3, 1884. They had one son, Clark Holliday, born Mar 20, 1886. Also, has anyone ever heard of a Showkier family living in Fayette Co. or vicinity? I refer specifically to a George Showkier, born Nov 26, 1888, died unknown. Thanks for your help. Larry
Hi Ed, Thanks for the information on the Bunker Hill School in Redstone Township. I do believe that the one I am looking for was in Springhill, but perhaps not. Dear Dawne, Thank you for the references to the Pitt digital library. I have discovered that there is a Bunker Hill Road (Township Road 303) in Springhill Township, and I suspect that the road and the school had something in common. Hi Folks; I just realized my spell check has corrected KUHNS to KAHNS sorry. The information for ordering from the Obit in the PA Room applies for all surnames. The earliest of the obits appeared in 1805 BUT - they are very few. The reason being the microfilm is not available for the very early papers except in limited supply. The index cards contain - deceased name date of death , place of death , Newspaper it appears in, some have page and paragraph as well. Occasionally there will be a spouse listed and if it is attached to a headline it is usually stated. I assume the fees have remained the same although the Uniontown Library was heavily hit by the decrease in grant money from the state of Pennsylvania so if they may have found it necessary to raise them a little please understand. As to your questions about Park Place Cemetery in Uniontown. It is still a work in progress and there is much to be done. The Girl Scouts did a wonderful job about five years ago of clearing brush and recording the standing stones. There are approximately 150 plus that are only visible in part the rest either worn away by age and the weather. Many additional were never recorded as they were indigent and have no stone, stones have been removed. We are attempting to extract information about any known burials from family members , civil records or obituaries. For those of you who e-mailed me privately I am answering the general information questions to the list but I will respond to you individually in the next few days. It takes me a little while to look up those individuals you request information on. Marilyn
Hi Again, Sorry but this way is no good to me I am doing computer work at home while scanning my mail & I do not have time to go to another site to read the full story, its usually 2 am when I'm finished working at home & without the other surnames involved listed I have no idea if the obit is my family or not - I love the obits just the way they have been PLEASE don't stop................... Hello, Perhaps those who are unhappy about the obits could do as I do - subscribe to the digest mode - then there are many less messages & you can scroll over the ones that don't interest you. I'm thrilled to see the obits. Hi; Just a note to let you know I am still working on Park Place Cemetery. As you know it's records leave much to be desired! However her are Kahn's family members I have so far Charles A Kahn Oct 29.1909- 13 June 1991 ---------angel Kahn's Oct 1896-23 Jul 1897 Abeam -E. - 9 Sep 1879- 14 Jul 1951 Albert B. - 1882-1944 Anna M- 1880-1940 David E- 29 Jul 1859- 14 Apr 1910 Harry A. - 1881-1921 Lida 1880-1945- wife of Harry Mary J. 1857-1976 Myrtle 1887-1976 Sadie - 2 Apr 1884- 25 Jun 1961 William H - 1848-1912 I suggest you write to Vickie Leonelli the Curator the PA Room c/o Uniontown Library 24 Jefferson Street, Uniontown,PA 15401. For $ 5.00 they will send you a copy of the 3x5 index cards for the surname. After you recieve it you can order for $2.00 each copies of the obits in the locat newspapers. I believe they are indexed up to about 1940 . However if you have the date of death for later obits they will also do those. Please be patient as Vickie is the only paid employee in the PA Room and she is over loaded with work. She will get it to you in a couple of weeks. Happy Hunting Marilyn
Researchers, The following is updated info on my William H. KUHNS family. I have put this info in a time line fashion with a few notes. Also, please note my thanks and sources of some info at the end. I also have a cemetery request posted. QUESTION - is it possible to have a lookup for Mary KUHNS (b. Nov 1856 and wife of W. H. Kuhns) at Park Place Cem ??? I would enjoy hearing from any "connections". Thank you for your time and any help. Sharon

Here is what I found in the 1951 Brownsville directory There were two Greenfield families in town at that time. Celia and Irving lived at 405 Green St. He was a grocer at Allison #1. There children were Barbara and Danny. I vaguely remember my dad saying that he told him that his first wife and children were victims of the holocaust--but I have no way to back this up. Later this family moved to 708 Green St. The other family lived on Pearl St. and I would say the house was built in the early 1940's. There was Jack Greenfield who had a grocery at Bank and High St. Pearl was his wife. They lived at 387 Pearl St. They had David, Dolores "Dolly" . I think Alvin was the oldest brother and his address in 1951 was 25 Market St. (which would be an apartment). He is also listed as a grocer at the Greenfield Market. His wife is Gloria. I want to say that Alvin graduated in 1945. Dolly was younger than I was by 2 or 3 years. The Irving Greenfields moved to Pittsburgh--I am thinking mid 70's. As a new person to the list, I would like to add my comments. Obviously people are volunteering their time to help other people by transcribing the obituaries. I am on the Centre County list and I occasionally get obituaries from Blair County. The difference is that many obituaries are listed in one email. Doing this might reduce the emails and it is my understanding that when they are archived that they could be searched based on any words that are contained in the body of the email. A bigger problem for me is the volumn of emails that are coming through that are personal responses to the obit controversy. On the Centre County list if you "reply", the email goes to the individual rather than the whole list. This might be a helpful change. Personally, I can handle the obituaries, but I find myself losing track of things that might be of interest due to the large volumn of mail that is personal in nature. As a newcomer who has received a lot of help from the list I am hesitant to make suggestions, but I think that if someone could find out how to make a reply go to the individual who sent the email rather than to the whole group that it would improve the effectiveness of the list and reduce any hard feelings that come from having a critical email posted to everyone by mistake.
I have the book, thanks. There is also an Uphold photographed in the book as well, I believe she had something to do with it, if memory serves me right, her name is Mary Jo. Christina
Dear Bob, I looked at the Pitt digital library and all they had was a mention of it being used as a church in 1870 and of another man who taught there. Hi Bob, There is a "Bunker Hill" in Redstone Township, Fayette County, approximately two miles from Republic, maybe a mile and a half. I have heard that there was an old school house there many years ago, but that was before my time, I have never verified it. Good luck!
