Hi, I went through this process many many years ago - put all the info into PAF - printed out thousands of Individual Summaries (manually sorted them alphabetically!), Family Group Sheets and Pedigrees - filled several lever arch files - looked very satisfying sat on the shelf - BUT - a complete and utter waste of time and effort. With a PC - who in their right mind is going to leaf through a thousand pages to find out the details of an ancestor? When you change/update the individual/family details - are you really going to print out replacement reports and maintain your printed records? Having got your renumbered pages by an alphabetic sequence - what a frustration it will be when you add some more names that interrupt that sequence! Printing out such vast reams of paper records is part of an initial phase of being proud of your work - and rightly so! - but a complete waste of time and effort! If you need a hard copy of such individual details - perhaps as part of the preparation for a research trip - print out the current details of what you need at the time for the individuals concerned. Sorry to be so blunt - not intended to be in any way offensive - but don't do it! I went to File > Print Reports > Individual Summary. I selected "use list," highlighted my name on the alphabetized list, clicked "select," and came up with 395 individuals. I generated an RTF file from the results. Here's the rub: I want them alphabetized by surname, given name. The report generated sorts the summaries by RIN. I could go through, rearrange the pages, then renumber the pages, but what a pain! I could generate a file for each of the 395 individuals, but again, what a pain! Is ther any way I can sort this report like I want? Thanks! MJ has written to me expressing his dissatisfaction with the tone of my reply - considered to be lecturing from a soap box and has caused him offence. I realise my reply was written in rather emphatic prose - reflecting my personal experience and observations of others who have tried to monitor their database via printed reports. Offence was not intended and I apologise for any taken. I do realise that each of us can find our own comfort zone in the ways and means we use to manage our database. On the specific point that MJ wanted to be addressed - I do not believe there is any procedure in PAF that can alter the sequence of printed Individual reports to have them come off in alphabetic name sequence - a possible alternative would be to use PAF Insight (see ohanasoftware.com) to change the RIN's to align with the alphabetic sequence.
