Hi David. The actual PAF database has the .paf file extension. There is no other database file needed when copying your database back and forth. It sounds to me like your Windows configuration is not showing that extension if you only see David Family. You can change that by changing the file configuration in Windows. The other file extensions used for the PAF system are as follows: .pal - logging changes. This is only created if you turn on the logging system. .par - report file for the submission file when creating a Temple Ready disk. .oup - temple ordinance data input file when running a Temple Ready disk in the Temple Ready program. .zip - backup file of the .paf database .lst - report files for messages, especially for errors when importing GEDCOM files. .ged - GEDCOM files .rtf - report files when sending printed reports to disk. Setting up a directory structure for your system is a personal preference. For what it is worth, here is how I have mine set up: PAF Data (top level) - PAF Master (directory for master databases) [PAF Files] - Family A (master database for family A) - Family B (master database for family B) - PAF Backup (for all .zip files) [Backup] - PAF Work (for all temporary databases where I load GEDCOMs to be verified and cleaned up) - PAF Reports (for all report files .rtf & .lst) [Reports] - GEDCOM (for all GEDCOM files coming in and going out) [Import/Export] - PAF Images (for all images) - Family A (images for family A, including photos and document images) - Family B (images for family B, including photos and document images) - PAF Web [Web Pages] - Family A (web files for family A) - Family B (web files for family B) With this format, I cannot always let PAF use the default that is set in the Preferences>Folders configuration. I have to navigate one level further when working with a specific family, or when I am working with PAF work files.
