    3. Hello Everybody, I have one male individual with RIN number 497. I have another individual with the same name with RIN number 800. I have now established that they are the same person who married twice eighteen years apart and there are children from each marriage but from the first one I have no grandchildren discovered but there are some from the second marriage. Can someone please explain in idiot proof language how I can remove one RIN number for the individual without affecting the other persons in the two families. I have been unable to find the answer from Help tab. Thanks in anticipation, Rod Whale, Andover.

    2. Open PAF database Click TOOLS Select Match/Merge In the Merge Individuals dialog box that pops up have the tab Individual Information selected (this should be the default) Click FIND on the left In the Find Individual dialog box that pops up enter teh RIN number of one of them (I would pick the one with the most information) Click OK Now on the right hand side of the Merge Individual box, click FIND In the new Find Indivdual box, enter the second RIN number, Click OK Now back in the Merge Individuals box click the MERGE button. 3. A RIN number identifies people by giving them each their own number in your own database, a useful tool when working in the database. However, there is nothing really unique about that number because if you ever split your database or share some of your data with someone else, the RIN number will change. A different identifying number that IS unique sometimes comes up when you are merging two people, the Ancestral File Number (AFN). Because I want to know when a person is listed multiple times in the LDS Ancestral File database, I make a tagged note, "ADTNL_AFN:", and list any "additional Ancestral File Numbers" in my notes. Even though I know that the Ancestral File database is a dinosaur that is not documented and therefore unreliable, I still like to know which of my ancestors is listed there and keep their unique numbers available so I can find them in the database should I ever find the need.
