    1. Idiot Question #36
    2. singhals
    3. Is it possible to change the field names on the individual screen (the Custom ID, Married Name, AFN, Physical desc., etc)? Can it be done in an active db or does it have to be done on an empty one? If the latter, do I then just GED the data in, or will it open the old db in the new template? Tnx -- and yes, I guess that is more than one idiot question ... Cheryl

Do you want to change the name of an existing field or add new fields and remove existing fields? Hopefully its the latter, I don't think the former is possible.) > Can it be done in an active db or does it have to be done on an empty > one? > Cheryl It can be done in an active database. I think what you want is to create your own template of events. Tools > Preferences > Templates Add (to add your own template. Typically I use my initials in the template to make it really stand out from the standard PAF installation.) Choose fields to add from under "Possible Fields" on the left and use the arrow button in the middle to move it over to "Fields for the template". It doesn't take much work to reproduce the default template and tweak it to your preferences. You can also drag-and-drop the fields in the right column up and down to re-arrange the order if you like. You must include the Full Name and Sex fields. Once you've created your template and are back at the Templates tab, select your template and choose the "Make Active" button to apply the template to everyone in your database. I don't believe you can create custom fields ("Favourite Colour"). That would be information for the Notes area. However the selection of available fields is pretty darned extensive. I find that customizing any app tends to degrade reliability and portability, so I'm looking for the option that has the highest probability of long-term success with the fewest potential problems. (g) Not that I'm paranoid, or anything. > > >>Can it be done in an active db or does it have to be done on an empty >>one? >>Cheryl > > > It can be done in an active database. > > I think what you want is to create your own template of events. > Tools > Preferences > Templates > Add (to add your own template.
