Thanks to some feedback I've received, it appears that this only works with Windows 98SE and above. Also, it will only find surnames. It won't contnue on to given names. Also as previously mentioned, It will only work in Individual View. I still think it is a useful shortcut that I discovered by accident. Rollei (from Australia)
This actually is not a shortcut. It's just a feature of PAF; it works in both the individual listing, as well as in the search feature. And you don't need to hold down the shift. Just start typing the name. And it works for earlier Windows versions, as it works on my 98. You also can use this same feature when wanting to go directly to an RIN number. Click on the RIN tab so that the files are ordered by number rather than alphabetically. Then start typing the number. I know this sounds simplistic, but if you have several thousand names, it's much faster to find it this way than scrolling down through the numbers (just as you've probably found when searching alphabetically.)
