    1. RE: [PAF-5] How to print "ladder" ahnentafel?

    3. Hi Dolly, PAF will not do the "ladder" Ahnentafel - as you have noted. There is of course the Ancestry Book Report - which assigns Ahnentafel numbers dynamically from a starting individual - with selected information printed in book form. Personally I find the book-form much more useful than any "ladder" format, in that there is no wasted space in the book-form - true Ahnentafel numbers are calculated but only for individuals in your data base; whereas in a "ladder" format, after a few generations, the printed pages are likely to be largely blank ---- consider a mere 10 generations with 1022 direct ancestors - at 4 generations per printed page will require 73 pages ----or, 15 generations (about 500 years - and as far as the most optimistic can hope to go) giving 32,766 direct ancestors across 2,340 pages. In short, my view is that such a "ladder" report would be largely blank spaces and the book format is much more acceptable. Incidentally - here is a challenge - once you know the Ahnentafel number (from the book report) - by converting it to a binary format can tell you the exact relationship to the starting individual and provide a trace of their genealogical relationship as well as any "ladder" formatted report. Hello to the list. I want to print a "ladder" ahnentafel where No. 1 will be Thomas Bradbury, No. 2 his father, No. 3 mother, etc. I don't see how to do this with PAF or with PAF Companion 5.1. Will Companion 5.2 do it? Thanks, Dolly in Maryland ==== PAF-5-USERS Mailing List ==== RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project: Connecting the World One GEDCOM at a Time http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/
