Seems I recall there is a Palm OS version of PAF somewhere downloadable from FamilySearch; however, a quick check I failed to locate. Help on where to download from. In this connection is a Palm PDA better than a PDA that uses the Microsoft OS? I am thinking of a PDA, and I don't really know enough to make a good choice. What should I look for in a PDA? Do I need to have the ability to have extra memory? What can I expect to see in a PDA with a PAF? What about size of the type in the display? I am getting up in years, and small print is a problem. I have even considered a Garmin Ique 3200, as it includes GPS and this might be useful when one finds a headstone in a cemetery. What about a camera? In fact, I would like to know advantages and disadvantages in using a PDA. The main reason I am considering a PDA is it would give me good portability without the weight and size of a laptop. I have a laptop, but it is slow, heavy, big at least in comparison to a PDA. My data file contains about 2500-3000 individuals, and in this regard how large can the data file be in a PDA?
I have friends who swear by the Palm PDAs and other friends who swear by the Windows PDAs. Palm has been around longer but with windows you have access to the programs you run on your Regular PC. Either way, one thing I like was being able to have a docking station to plug my PDA into And have it automatically update according to the things I picked like my calendar, address book, Genealogy, etc. I think it is kind of a personal thing, I think people should go to the stores where you can hold them And look them over. Look for a county computer fair or other such things to see a wide variety of them. Also it is easy to compare things like the screens, they have a measurement in inches. You might also just want to consider one of the new super lightweight laptops.
