It might not work for PAF but some programs that won't allow "draft" printing it is possible to fool them by going into Control Panel/Printers and changing the default printer properties from "normal" or whatever to "draft" and color to "black and white". The only problem seems to be that you must remember to reset the properties when higher quality is desired. Will Grace Inman" <Grace@eufaula.rr.com> wrote: Hi Listers. I'm running XP Home. These only have to be legible ... not a great example of fine printing. But I've been unable to find a way to save ink when printing reports in PAF. Does anyone know of a way to set the printer to use "Draft" form, thereby saving a lot of ink?? My HP Deskjet 5650 printer's "Preferences" let me do this for all other print jobs, but these "Preferences" don't even show up when printing reports from PAF. Thanks in advance for any help. Regarding printing in draft (or black-only, full color, etc.) It is definitely possible to install multiple physical printers to any PC and in Windows. In my experience, it is also possible to install multiple "virtual" printers, even though one has only the single physical printer actually attached. In any multiple printer configuration, whether several actual physical printers, or several "virtual" printers, one printer will always be designated the "default" printer by Windows, i.e., it will be automatically chosen by Windows unless you make a choice during the printing process to use a different printer. The beauty of this is that once you have the "printers" installed within Windows, you would go to the Control Panel/Printers/Printing Preferences, and from there, make all your configuration settings for each printer, i.e., one installation could be permanently set to "Draft", another to "Full Color", another "Black Only", and if you give each printer a corresponding name differentiation indicating to yourself which configuration that printer has, later on when printing anything, you simply choose which printer is appropriate at that moment and no adjusting is necessary, and you don't have to go back and undo any changes after printing, etc. etc. I have done this many times for folks who have Photo printers for instance, but still use them mostly for regular document printing, and by setting the default printer as Draft or Black Only, you can print web pages, and not waste your color ink on the links etc, which normally require color. Hope this is clear, if not feel free to ask me directly off-list.
