    1. Re: [PAF-5] RIN numbers
    2. It sounds like you are trying to use RINs for things they are not meant for. When you import her GEDCOM, the RINs will be generated for her data as the import is done. All of the records will have new RINs. GEDCOMs do not contain RINs, but they are used by the program to keep track of things locally (not a permanent part of the records). If you were to export your data to a GEDCOM and then import that into a new database, an entirely new set of RINs would be generated. They are useful for some short term applications like merging, but should not be used as a permanent part of a record (not unless you don't mind being disappointed sometime in the future when they all change). This was discussed quite a bit several weeks back. The general conclusion should be that they can be useful for various short-term needs, such as merging, but should not be looked at as a part of the record in the long term.
