    1. Re: [PAF-5] How/Where do I include lots of research information?

    3. Rosemary, What a wonderful resource you have! Sources and notes are what makes genealogy special. You have a gold mine! Paf now has what it takes to add all the special things to your file. But it takes time and maybe a tear or two to learn everything. Look at the help menu and click on lessons. Also note that every fact can be backed up by a " citation" that's what I would call a source. It first I didn't realize you can add more than one citation - source. These citations are added by pushing on the "s" button by each fact. Exact text can be typed in and printed or not printed in some or the reports etc. Also images of these documents can be attach ( These can be looked at from database but are not printed in any report. But can be shared along with your database if you want.) Your pictures can be added to a scrapbook for each person. Also one picture for each person can be printed on many reports if you want. The whole scrapbook can be printed too. Learn how to use tags on your notes. As you get started, after going through the lessons ask specify questions there is so much in the program that's great-- but it has make a hair or two a little grayer some times- so ask when you have a question. I have developed a system for keeping notes of all the research done on one family - whether successful or not - including correspondence, transcripts, photocopies, images, certificates, photos etc etc. All these notes for each family are based on one file. Can anyone suggest ways to incorporate this information into PAF, with the minimum of tears? 3. Hello: I ran a custom marriage reports and I wanted to sort the marriage date in ascending order. The report sorts by the day of month, month and year. I would like it to sort by the year, then month and day. The marriage date is my second sort field, after I sort by the man's surname. The report will list the 10 Jun 1842 and the 12 Jun 1831 since it sorts first on the day and then month and then year. I would prefer to have the 12 Jun 1831 be shown prior to the 10 Jun 1842. Is there a way to correct this or set a differant preference. Thanks in advance. Doug

    3. Hi Doug, Yes. You can change this by setting the Date format in Tools>Preferences>Format>Date Display Styles to YMD. That will cause the dates in your custom reports to be output in YMD format and it looks like it will even keep the months in chronological order instead of alphabetical order. Once you print your report, you can go back and set the Date Style back to DMY. 3. Hi Doug, I have my Tools > Preferences > Formats (for dates) set to DMY both for entry and display. Any Custom Report generated with dates and sorted by date always properly sorts the date into true chronological sequence - putting all the Abt/Est/Bef year dates, ie Abt 1865 as the first entries for that given year and any dates with month and year but no day as the first entries for the given month. Even with the "display date" setting to YMD the reports still display in true chronological sequence - as you require. I just cannot get PAF to do the date sort the "wrong" way. However - it is possible your problem is in your statement . . . . " I sort by the man's surname" . . . . - technically, you cannot sort by the surname alone - only by the surname and given name -or - by the full name (other way round - given name and surname) -------- therefore, the true sequence is the name sequence and you will only have entries sorted by date when you have identically named individuals. What do you think?
