    1. Probems formatting source "Actual text"

    3. I'm going barmy. In the edit source box, I put in the examples given below, and PAF concatonates it into one line in both GEDCOM export and in its make web page facility. In the gedcom, a stack of CONC tags precede the lines, but why? Clearly I want CONT lines instead - so I preserve my formatting. Can I do this. (I know I can, because in other sources the formatting is preserved via CONT tags). Perhaps the successfully formatted sources were copied and pasted from a different document. Perhaps they were entered before I started using PAF, and came in in my first gedcom. Can anyone help me learn how to enter formatted entries (e.g. census entries), or poems into the "actual text" entry of a source? 3. Tony, In my long battle to use the 'Actual Text' box for source citations I have evolved the following obscure rules and observations: 1 - The Actual Text box on the screen and the resultant printed output cannot be formatted together - in other words, you can have the Actual Text box on screen looking nicely formatted (using tabs) - but it will not appear formatted on any printed output - or - you can have it appear formatted on your printed output (see below) and it will appear higilty pigity on the screen box. 2 - On printed output, the Actual Text will start, enclosed within its own quotation marks, immediately where the citation reference details finish (in the middle of a line) - so I always: (a) put a carriage return as the first line of each Actual Text box entry (b) never put quotation marks around the text. 3. - To get the printed output properly formatted to my requirements, I prepare the text in a single column excel spreadsheet (do not use multiple columns) using a monospaced font (example - Courier New) to exactly the format that I want to see on any printed reports and then copy/paste into the Actual Text box - immediately the contents of the box seem to go crazy and when saved and re-displayed, the layout so carefully planned with the monospaced font will have disappeared because the screen can only be displayed in a proportional font - but don't worry - as I said above, you either have it looking good on the screen and rubbish on your printed output, or the other way around. I then subsequently add in the additional carriage return on the first line (as noted above) so that the Actual Text now starts on line 2. I have evolved a number of excel "templates" for different types of sources (census, certificates etc.) so that they always have the same look and feel with just the detailed personal information changing. 4. - On the Tools>Preferences>Fonts I set the "Notes on Reports" to the same monospaced font (Courier New) and I use a smaller than normal font size (8) in order to get long lines in before the new lines or carriage returns in the excel pre-preparation formatting (particularly for all the column information on census layouts). 5. - The printed reports will now look exactly like the pre-formatting executed on the excel layout. I would be delighted to hear of any easier solutions.
